paper at Knoxville, Tennessee,
announcing the death of Mrs.
Cordelia Mayes," wife of his Bon,
James W.:
At Hall's Cross Roads, July
27, waB conduoted the service
over the remains of Mrs. Cor
delia Mayes, wife of James W.
Mayes, a mail carrier of this
city. The following postofllce
employes acted as pall hearers
J. C. Oallison, W. C. Me, J.
Warren Carr, Thos. M. Shipley,
W. B. Ford and John Kidd,
Beautiful floral tributes were
sent by the postoffice employes
Mrs. Mayes was born August
0, 1871, to J. M. and. Mary Carr,
in Claiborne county, Tennessee
She was related to many fam
ilies of Carrs and Sharps, two
of the most prominent family
names in Claiborno county
Mrs. Mayes professed religion
and united with the Providence
Baptist church at the nge of 14,
but at the time of her death was
a member of the Second Baptist
church of Knoxville. On .No
vember 3, 1892, she married
James W. Mayes, and tneir
married life wTas all a model of
what the union of a Christian
man and woman should be.
The funeral, which occurred
at Beaver Dam ohurcn. was
conducted bv Rev. W, A
Atchley and Rev. B. L. Stanfil
both of whom paid beautifu
tributes of respect to the de

vantage of being compelled to
spend at least two days on the
road and the accompanying ex
pense of having to stay in town
over night with hotel and stable
bills to pay, to say nothing of
Prineville,
