ROSEBURG S ROSES
ATTRACT ATTENTION
"1 tell v. mi, this is the place to find
fine Mowers," remarked Mr. .!. C. Amie,
who arrived in this city from New Ytrk
City, this week. He was looking at
some handsome chrysanthemums which
were to be seen in the Plaindealer show
window. "Back in York state I have a
fruit farm which wa. handed down to
me by my father and it is -kept up and
is doing very nicely, bnt I am delighted
with what I have teen ol your country
along this particular line. Hut. what
pleases me most is the fine roses which
seem to grow here to perfection. Why
I don't believe there ia any other place
in the land where they are so tine as
they are right here. There seems to be
something in the soil and climate which
make it the ideal place lor their cultivation-
You cannot dwell too much upon
this matter lor it is something which is
worth w hile to notice. We can raise
tine fruit back east and California can
boast of her sunshine, but Douglas
county is the place to find fine rosea.
Don't be backward about telling of this
matter."
This leads the Plaindealer to mention
a matter which has beeu brought fre
quently to the attention of the editor,
and that is the plan of havingaouie kind
of au ri'uiijj at the Southern Pacific
depot grounds. Tho city of Ashland has
taken this matter up and now has a very
creditable display right at the depot,
w here the many passengers as they walk
around the grounds will sue and be im
pressed by it. Rot-eburg is the end of
a division and some most excellent ad
vertising of Douglas county's varied re
sources could he shown to a very good
apvautage if some place was provided
down at the depot. The trains stop
here some little time for lunch and dur
ing that pel led the passengers get out
and walk around to get a breath of our
tine ozone ami if thev could but catch a
glimpse ol what we have here, well,
there is no let ing what good might
result therefrom.

"I feel very sure that the company will
readily grant a place for such a build

in favor of it. At Medford they have a

an exhibit on our depot grounds for I
