BORROWED HIS WIFE AND MONEY TOO Sheriff's Sale. The Marshfield Mail says, J. Y. Smith, of Beaver Hill, was in this city yesterday searching for his wife and her paramour, J. O. Ashton, with whom she left Beaver Hill, Wednesday morning, taking $50 of the wronged hus band's cash. Mr. Smith upon learning that his wife had fled, immediately started in pursuit, hoping to overtake the guilty couple here; but they had laid their plans well, and left Beaver Hill just in time to catch the out going Plant for San Franscisco. Mr. and Mrs. Smith, together with Ashton, came to Beaver Hill some weeks ago from the quartz mines in California, and the men secured work in the mine. Mon day Mr. Smith had worked out about $50 which Ashton borrowed of him and came to Marshfield, returning early Wednesday morning just after Smith had gone to work in the mine, for the woman, who, in the meantime had pur chased about $15 worth of merchandise at the company's store, charging the same to the husbands account. The eloping couple walked and carried their bag gage as far as Coaledo where Ashton had left the rig in which he had driven up from Marshfield. Taking this they drove to Empire aud caught the Plant just before she sailed. Mr. Smith savs that he does uot mourn the loss of his wife and friend, whom were both false, but says he would like to have his $50 back and will make au effort to overtake them in order to punish Ashton for obtaining w money under false pretense.
