The engine broke a piece out f a rail about 2 feet long and the piece was found lying in the ditch. The entire train passed over in safely but the train was stopped and section foreman John Carr notified and h had a uew rail put in at once. Prof. A. M. Mr. Hoover is seeking for a location In Jack-on county. The Ashland Tribune announces in its last issue that upon Feb. 15 it will drop from its list all who are delinquent for twelve months or more. This is a step in the riicht direction and should be done by all local papers that haven't al ready done so. IN, 'nu, of pneumonia at l.amar, Mo , aged about 71 years. He was it soldier of the Civil War, a member of the A. W. F.lliot Poet of Yoncalla, and a faithful friend. Senators Millers hill to consolidate the four normal schools of the state into one institution failed to pass the Senate, as was antici pated, but it had more strength than was believed would be the case, 12 of the Senators voting for the measure and 17 against it. It was asserted by a number of speakers that it was not alone a scheme to cut down the normal schools in Oregon but an attempt to have the one normal left in Oregon lo cated either at Salem or Portland.
