S, in the powerful French society drama en title.! "Mother and Son," in which Miss Fischer baa scored her greatest success this season. The play is properly staged and costumed. The wardrobe used by Miss Fischer and her ioinpny was made expressly for this production and is of the richest quality. The play is beautifully told, dealing with the life of a woman named Felic;a, who with her beaut v und charm set all Paris at her feet. A son was born to her, hut owing to its mysterious birth she informs all that he is her nephew, the son of her Bister, and as such he is taught to be lieve. Tired of her society life she re tires under the assumed natneof Madam Dubois Wo find our story opens with her son, the suiter of Kdyth the daugh ter of a resected and wealthy gentle man, Mons. Godfrey. Madam Dubois, I on a visit to his home meets Mons. Moatioir, a former lover, who recog nizes her as Felicia In vain si.e pleads to keep her secret and owing to her son's noble life promises silence. Mons. Keauchamp, a lawyer, becomes suspi cious, discov rs her secret and adv ces her to tell her son everything, and we find a mother telling a son the st ry of her sinful Ufa. Her son forgives and stands hy his mother. "1 will make the world respect my mother." Not satisfied tha' her past is dead she enters a convent to devote li-r life as an ex- beat piat ion for her sins. Lain A special to the Plamdoalor from Drain says that the body of Dr. Har ber was brought out to that place to day from Gardiner by T. V. Andrews and was shipped to Portland for cremation. It is learned from Mr. Andrews that Dr. Marber was summoned by Fred Cassidy of Florence, who .sus tained a severe injury by accident in a logging camp at that place. The doctor started up the coast on horse back to Florence Friday. The title was in and he experienced some diffi culty in crossing Ten Mile Creek. On reaching the moith of the Sinslaw river and finding no one there to meet him he decided to swim his horse across to the jetty. This he accomplished successfully, but on reaching the jetty and in attempting to walk to the land he fell through an opening into ifa .ut live of water, lk'ing bruised on the side of the head by the fall he was drowned, the body not being recovered until the next day. Saturday. The bone was found roaming ;:!iut on the leach near by. The doctor was well and favorably known in this county and his tragic death is deplored by all.
