Phone No. 281. 77tf A carload of 100,000 young fruit trees was nnloadod at Medford last wee-, which was probably the lirgest ship ment ever received at that place. The trees were mostly apples and pears and were consigned to buyers at Central Point, Woodville, Sam Valley, Eagle Point and other places as well as to the immediate viciuity of Medford. There were enough trees in the car to plant an orchard of 1500 acres. Jacksonville 8ei)tinel. Mr. David Briggs and wife, who are the parents of the boys who found the bonanza claim near Sucker creek last summer, are in tbe city tor few days says the Grants Pass Herald. Mr. Brigge reports that Messrs. Staples and com pany, who have bonded the claims, a e developing the same with a cross cnt tunnel which will strike the vein at a depth of two hundred feet, and until that is completed there will be little news concerning the mine. Rice & Kicc, the house furnishers, havu a unique and attractive window display. It consists of an old fashioned flour mill with a large overshot water wheel, which is kept in operation by a small flow of water from the city mains, which after leaving the wheel goes rip pling down over a pebbly bed into a small reservoir containing a large num ber of small fishes. The reservoir and brooklet have moss covered banks with plants growing here and there, all being surrounded hy a beautiful moss and evergreen clad hill on which a minia ture deer looks down on the in dustrial scene below. This window dis play is tl e subject of much favorable comment. CONGRESSMAN HERMANN OFF FOR WASHINGTON Portland, Nov. LM.-liimrer Hermann, Representative to Congress from the First District, left for W ashinglon last night over the Northern Pacilic. He will hurry straight through so as to go liefore the House committee on rivers and harlvors, w hich will adjourn the end of next week after having prepared re commendations for river and harbor ap propriations. He said : 'I'nless Oregon shall lie fully repre sented before the t miittee, appropria tions for rivers and harbors in this state may be pruned even lower than the Chief of Engineers has cut down the mtimaiea of Major Laagfltt. Though the Columbia river does not touch his district, Mr. Hermann recog nizes its needs as the most important that the Oregon iiiciiiIkts of Congress will have to urge at the National capital, lan kily Congress is disposed to lie gen erous with the Columbia, no doubt lie cause the river is one of the largest in the United States."
