As turkeys are rather scarce and high

from the East. Unless the turkey crop
in the Coast states is much larger than
usual this will be another year of good
prices for turkeys.

HOT TINE IN THE
FLORENCE COUNCIL
Florkhck, Or., Not. 18 The city
council held an adjonrned meeting last
night and had a stormy session. It
seems that the school district lacked
some 500 or more of being able to pay
for the school bouse. At the regular
session in October an ordinance was
passed donating $600 of city funds to
the building fund of the school district.
O. W. Hurd, as president of the board,
vetoed the ordinance on the ground that
the council had no legal right to appro
priate city funds to the school district.
The council then voted on the ordinance
again, three of them voting for it and
one against.
At the council meeting last night
Councilmen Bebnke asked the chair
man if he would sign a warrant for the
money and was informed that he had
already stated in writing his objections
to the ordinance, and that the same ob
jections would hold against signing the
warrant. Councilman Hughes then
preferred charges against President
Hurd, charging him with malfeasance
in office. They then put Councilman
Morris in as temporary chairman, then
voted that the office of president of the
board be declared vacant. They then
appointed Marion Morris as president of
the board. Mr. Hurd said he would re
tire and the recorder, A. . Picket,
picked up his papers and started to lock
them up, but the marshal prevented
him from doing it and the recorder.
Councilman Carman and ex-President
Hurd then walked out. Marion Morris
was then sworn in as president of the
board and D. . Severy was appointed
and sworn in as recorder. Having thus
summarily disposed of all opposition,
the council then proceeded to transact
their business in a very harmonious
manner.
