The vote was followed by a demonstration. When ratification of this action is made by Presbyterian sy nods there will be no north, no south, in Presbyterianism. The vote was over whelming in favor of amalgamation. It waa preceded by lively discussion. The negro delegates opposed the proposition. By this action the question of infant damination on which the parent church and ita offshot, the Cumberland church, went asunder in 1810 disappears. 'This action on the part of the Pres byterian general assembly in Buffalo means that the United Presbyterian church will have a membership of 1, 600,000," said Rev. E. Nelson Allen, of the Cumberland Presbyterian church, of this city, when told to the Journal's telegram telling of the act of the general assembly. "It will be glad tidings to all Presby terians. It means an increase of strength to the church, and complete accord on all nutters. "While the act of the general assem bly of today will have to bo referred to the presbyteries for confirmation, and will have to be again referred to the general assemblies of the two bodies next year, there is scarcely a doubt but that the union will go through. In Tennessee on February 4, 1810, a few Presbyterian ministers who could no longer support the third chapter of the Westminister confession that- part which deals with infant damnation organized the Cumberland Presbyterian church. Since then the Cumberland church lias slowly but steadily grown until now it has a membership of '200, 000, divided among 118 presbyteries. For the most part the members of the fjuninerianu cmircti are conuueti to me south, to the central and the middle states, and remotely in the west. "Last year, at Los Angeles, the Pres byterian general assembly did exactly with the third chapter of the confession as our leaders had done in 1810. I mine diately, our people mode overtures for a union of the two churches. It was these overtures that were approved by our as sembly in Dallas and bv the assembly in Buffalo today." Portland Journal. Yoncalla. Miss Maud DeVore who has been teaching at Canyonville, and her broth er, B. F. DeVore who has been attend ing a Medical College at San Francisco has returned home. The latter is quite ill, and Dr. DeVore of Canyonville is in attendance. Messrs Lansing and Knight of Salem have been interviewing the farmers and fruitgrowers this week in the interest of the Quaker nursery. Misa Emily DeVore who is teaching at Elkbead, came home Friday evening for a short visit. J. P. Bishop received last Friday a fine Columbia River salmon as a present from his son Frank of Astoria. The Degree of Honor has elected a: representative to Grand Lodge which meets at Portland in Julv, Mrs. Lena Long with Mrs. Zadie Bishop aa alter nate. To the individual voter: You will ex trctse again your power as an American citizen and the most important ques tion yon will have the privilege of help ing to decide will be the one of local op tion. This law is not prohibition and will have" no effect upon saloons unless the people use it. Ii it carries no pa loons will cloee because of it before Jan 1, 1905 and unless a majority of tli voters cast their b llo'.s for prohibition in November it will not effect them then The brewers and liquor dealers are working hard to defeat the bill ; eend ingout circulars telling of the great calamity it would be for local option to become a law. The U. S. Supreme Court has declared the saloon a ruisance and a majority of the mothers of our land would rejoice in its destruction. 0 which side are yon? Will you vote to give the people a chance to protect their homes from the greatest enemy of civili zation or will yon help the enemy? Those who will do all in their power to help you in making good citizens of your children are working, hoping and pray ing for the bill. If you want to help them put a cross between 300 and yes under "For Local Option Liquor Law and get as many others to do the same as you can. Vote for Harry McClallen. There are but few in Douglas county who do not know of the efficient and enviable rec ord which Harry has made during the past four years, as deputy sheriff. He has had personal supervision over th clerical department of the sheriff's office and his balances figure out to a cent It requires a new man, no matter how competent, fully a year to acquire the routine of this, the heaviest and most responsible office in the county, and man like Mr. McClallen, who has every account and source of information at his fingers' end, is a valuable man and the voters should appreciate the fact that the trial of any number of new men (although they may be good and intelligent) may not result in so curing one half so efficient. Harry is known to be efficient and competent Better vote for a surething. It Will be to Your Interest If you contemplate visiting the St Louis Exposition, to secure reliable in formation as to railroad service. tl lowest rates and the bent routes; also to local conditions in St. Louts ; hotel etc. etc. If you will write the undersigned stating what information you desire, tl same will be promptly furnished If w do nbt have it on hand, will secure for you if possible, and without any ex pense to you. A WIFE'S CONFESSION. Of course every one knew when they were engaged and every one pretended to be 8ururied when they heard it was suddenly broken off. It wa first said she had broVen it off, then that his heart had changed, but finally she con fessed that she had been so irritable, so depressed and blue that she had fairly driven him away. Her good looks were vanishing. She waa getting thin, pale, and hollow -cheek, ed, with datk circles around her eyea. Suddenly all society was pleased again to hear of the engage ment being' renew ed, and it was not long before a beau tiful and radiant bride was taken to the altar. She had regained her good looks, her former happy disposition and strong1 nerve all through a secret a friend gave her. A few bottles of Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription is what made two more lives happy and a radiant bride more beautiful than she had ever appeared before. flacked up by over a third of a centnry of remarkable and uniform cure, a record such as no other remedy for the diseases and weaknesses peculiar to women ever attained, the proprietors and makers of Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription now feel fully warranted in ottering to pay $500 in legal money of the United States, for any case of Leucorrhea, Female Weakness, Prolapsus or Falling of Womb which they cannot cure. All they ask is a, fair and reasonable trial of their means of cure. Mrs. Q O. Scripture, of Prescott, Aria., L, Box 536, writes : For nearly two year I was a great suilercr with ulceration and enlargement of womb, also suffered severely with dyspepsia and was run down a perfect wreck. I doctored for several years; got 110 better, until about seven months ago I began taking Dr. Pierce' Favorite Prescription arid ' Pleasant Pellets.' I can stand ou my feet and work hard all day, I feel that life la now worth living, and shall ever feel grateful to you and shall always recommend your medi cines, to all who arc suScriag la soy way."
