"Many Roseburg people have decided lo spend their vacation at Popular North -Beach, at the mouth of the Columbia, leaving Portland (daily except Sunday and Monday) on the 0. R. & N. Co.'s rpalatial Steamer T. J. Potter queen of river boats five hours are consumed in snaking the trip to Astoria, the scenery (including all that is beautiful, and tthrough the great salmonjfishing waters of the Lower Columbia. After a short stop at Astoria, the steamer is off for JHwaco, on Baker's Bay, where the pas sengers board the train waiting and are oon off for North Beach, thelpopular -summer resort of the North Pacific coast. 'During the trip from Hwaco the first good view of the Pacific is secured, the rain running along the ridge of the beach within two hundred yards of the breakers. The beach is twenty-seven smiles long, two hundred yards wide at low tide, and so hard that carriage -wheels scarcely leave a mark. It is an ideal place for driving, riding, wheel ing, or walking, and the surf bathing is unsurpassed. The excellent hotels nd boarding places provide good ac- commodations at prices ranging from one dollar to-three dollars per day. The round trip rate from Portland to Astoria is 2.50; to Ocean Beach points 34.00, good until October 15th. On Sat urdays, during July an August, round trip tickets are' sold to beach points at $2.50, good for return leaving the beach the following Sunday evening.
