- Reduced Excursion Rate of the Seaside and Mountain Resorts for the Summer. The Southern Pacific Company has placed on sale, at vesy low rates, around trip tickets to the varieus reeorta along its lines, and also in connection with the Carvallis & Eastern Kailroad, to De troit and the seaside at Yaquina Bay, atter tickets good for return until Oc tober 10th. Three-day tickets to Yaquina Bay, good going Saturdays, returning Mon days, are on sale at greatly reduced rates, from all points Eugene and north on both East and West Side Lines, enabling people to spend Snnday at the seaside. Very low round trip rates are also made between Portland and same points on the Southern Pacfic, good going Saturdays, returning Sunday or Monday, allowing Portland people to spend Sunday in the country and the out-of-town people to have the day in Portland. Tickets from Portland to Yaquina Bay, good for return via Albany and East Side., or Corvallis and West Side, atoption of passenger. Bacgage checked throuch to Newport. A new feature at Newport, this year, will be an un-to date kindergarten in charge of an ex perienced Chicago teacher. While going down Moore hill the driver attempted to put on the brake, but in some manner it had become out of order and the driver, Mr. Tom. Duncan, slipped and fell under the vehicle, the two wheels pasting over his right leg. The horses dashed on down the hill and overturned the stage. Mr.T. Ollivant, an elderly gentleman who was a passenger was thrown out -and eeverly braised. The driver of the stage coming this way got another man to bring his stage to Rose burg and hegathered np the remains of the other, and took them to Myrtle Point. At the latest report Mr. Duncan is getting along nicely but the other gentleman, Mr. Ollivant is still pretty badly used np. New York is to have a building 45 stories high, to cost foO.OOO.OOO. Stockmen in Gopher valley near Yam hill have lostthis summer about twenty head of calves, and in the vicinity of the foothills west of town calves are dying at an alarming rate. The disease has not been diagnosed, and no remedy has been tried successfully. Those who claim to be familiar with the blackleg say it is that which is carrying off the young stock. The Klamath Lake Navigation com pany of Klamath Falls, has fild its arti cles of incorporation with the Secretary of State at Salem. The capital stock is $10,000 and the incorporators are S. V. Short, G. H. Woodbury and E. E. Up myer. The company is preparing to ply gasoline launches on the Klamath lakes. Probably no heavier snow storm oc enrred during last winter than was wit nessed last Monday morning July 6th. It came down in large flakes and soon covered the ground to the depth of of an inch. Trees were bent to the ground with the heavy load, and many were broken down. It was a scene rarely witnessed and one that people could not believe unless they saw it with their own eyes. Lakeview Examiner. TheC. K. Spaulding Log Company have three large log drives soutn ot &a lem, one on the Willamette a few miles above Albany, one on the South Santiam and another on the North Santiam. Over 10,000,000 feet of logs are being floated down these three rivers. They will be boomed at Newburg and the saw and pulp timber separated. The-latter are towed to Oregon City later in the season. The company has about 75 men employed and about 20 teams are re quired to wrk the rivers. JULY CLEARANCE SALE.
