THE NEW" STYLES. . WtUdns and Traveling Coatamea. Some LiOnir Coat. The walking and the traveling cos tume clears the ground by an Inch. IJt Is considered very bad form to wear u trailing skirt on any but a dressy oc casion. .For summer nothing can be more useful than a suit of navy blue cheviot made -with a plaited skirt held Into a CHIFFON RUFFLE. yoke around the hips, the jacket s blouse with slightly puffed sleeves and a cape effect. Long coats will not be worn so n,-.v." except for motoring and travel. ::; The three-quarter length is conskienjfl smarter and more dressy. Coats of silk are made unlined. and the weaves include peau do soie. pcau de cygne, both ilain and dottetl. as well as grosRrain. louisine and soft makes of taffeta. Moire is not in vogue, as It was last year. 'A ball gown seen recently was of crepe de chine with the bodice laid In crosswise folds and the skirt treated in the same fashion. The sleeves were merely short ruffles, and the decolle tage was encircled with a bertha of lace, while a panel of the same ran down the front of the klrt by way of completing a pointed hip yoke, also of the lace. The popularity of red seems to in crease. Red serge, red foulard and voile, spotted for preference, red hop sack and red linen cleverly Intermin gled wlth-whlte or ecru abound on ev ery side. The cut shows a very smart chiffon ruffle with an inner band of black Tel vet and an edging of the same. JUDIC CHOLLET. FOR SUMMER WEAR. Red aCsaUn Useful and Ch I c Prac tical Bine Serge Frocks. There Is a fancy for red, especially In muslin. This color stands a good deal of wear without looking soiled. It is always difficult to lay down hard and fast rules in the matter of colors. In the early part of the season people de clared It would be a black and white one. It is always so more or less, be cause there is something very chic about black and white mixtures, but PIULOTICAIi BLUB EEBGE EKIETS. the choice of colors will be unlimited. The majority of women remain faith ful of somber hnes in cloth and revel In bright shades where muslins, linens and such fabrics are concerned. A dark blue serge frock made recent ly for morning wear had a skirt which cleared the ground all the way around and was arranged In small kilts. The litle coat was tight at the back, fin ished with a wide band of bhie taffeta. !Ehe front fell loosely over a 'plain waistcoat, with a chemisette of muslin, completed by a very wide butterfly bow. The throe cornered hat of blue straw was trimmed with a curiously striped bine taffeta ribbon. Tbe plain skirt has certainly fallen from popular favor. The very smart models seem to show tuckings and plaltlngs. These plaited skirts are con fined around the hips by means of yoke or rows of stitches, and they arc allowed to flare from the knees out ward. The nemjest fashion Is to huvp the held In effect; made shorter In the back than It is in the front. The skirts in the illustration are both chic and pretty. JTJDIC CHOLLET. Sheep For Sale. WHISPERING TOO LOUD! 1 ; gg I have heaid it whispered in loud tones that I was going to Oi quit tho music business, but that is only another from the old source for the purpose of gaining a point. Even if I succeed in S3 ray new enterprise, it will be only another step towards holding my own against the trusts and combines. I am ahout the only piano dealer now on the coast that is going it alone and single handed. I oni grateful to the many friends who are giving me their patronage, for each month is bringing in greater results. I have never been guilty of selling a cheap piano for a high price or of misrepresenting the goods I handle, or even my competitor except in a defensive manner. And the name NEEDHAM (as he has no connection with that house) must be dropped from, his ad. or he will hear something drop in regard to the price of Victor pianos that will surprise him and the public, or better see clipping from an eastern pap.ei in my window, where Victors are offered for nearly two thirds less than is asked for them on this coast. This trick of holding a piano and keeping it in bad order just to knock its good qualities, is getting to bean old gag and the public certainly sees it or we would not continue to sell so many high grade Needham pianos. Do you remember not long ago, when a certain dealer got hold of a few Steinways and sold them for low prices iust to burt its reputation? Did it hurt it? No and neither can they hurt NEEDHAM because it speaks for itself. All our last sales are a choice between NEEDHAM and Chickering, NEEDHAM winning out every time.
