Mr. Hermann Opposed the Porest Reserve Outrage. Concluded from first papo. Oregon that it be confined 10 tlio ex treme summit of the CVit K-injr- where there is no opportunity for agricultural development, mining or other immedi ately useful purposes and where by such reserve a better protection against fire may bo given to the timber upon the mountain summits and at the extremo heads of tho water courses, and then only upon an exchange of lands of ap proximately tho same value. An ex amination of reports made by special agents of this office as to only a small portion of tho largo area now recom mended to be reserved by tho Geological Survey convinces mo that a greater area than that which may bo embraced along tho mountain summits should not bo contained in any reservation in South western Oregon. I would earnestly represent that to place in reserve more than one-half of the area of Curry County, one of tho oldest counties of 0egon, and nearly one-half of Josephine County, another one of tho oldest coun ties in tho State, would result in very great inconvenienco and injury to the inhabitants who have formed settlement within the same, to tho various indus trial operations now in progress there, as well as a -very creat lniustice auu burden upon the remaining cuiwus property holders and tax payers in m other portion of the County unreserved since the present and future cnect ai such withdrawal will greatly ininair tne ability of the people of Curry wamv more especially, to provide sufficient revenue in the maintainanco 01 ma County organization and will generaur retard and prevent all settlement ana discourage mining operations within ui proposed boundaries. Very Respectfuli Bingek Heruahv. Commissionn Hermann Indorsements. Hon. Perry S. Heath, secretary of the national republican committee, writes to the chairman of the First republican congressional committee, under date of April 20, 1903, as follows: "There is not a true republican any where, certainly not in Washington City who certainly does not hope for Mr. Hermann's election. I believe that there is no onj materially connected with President Roosevelt's administra tion no ono who will have much to do with the continuance of the splendid administration we now have, who does not hope that the republican will elec Mr. Hermann by a large majority, and send him back where Le rendered so efficient service, and where he has so many sincere friends." Judge I. V. Wright, law examiner of the ceneral land office, and an official there for twenty-five years, excongreS' man from Tennessee and judge of the Supreme Court of that state, writes January 29, 1903, as follows: "From my observation I have regard ed Mr. Hermann as one of the mos earnest, painstaking, laborious, honor able public officers under whom it ha; been my lot to serve. I feel sure that in retiring from the head of this bureau he will carry with him the respect and best wishes of all those who have served with him, together with all lull con eciQUEness that he has endeavored faith folly in every way to advance the wel fare of the country" Since his nomination to congress con gratulations have bean pouring in from all the law examiners and all the law clerks, including the chief, clerk of the general land office. Also the same from Hon. E. . Best, democratic assistant commission of the general land office who served awhile under Hermann and from Hon. W. F. Mondell, who also, served as assistant commissioner, and who is now member of congress from the state of Wyoming. Also congratn lations from Major D. W. Harlan, chief of the frauds division, and who served with Mr. Hermann during all of his time as commissioner. Senator A. G. Foster, of Washington Bays: "That he performed his work intelli gently, and matters have been promptly dispatched in a business-like and thor oughly efficient manner." Reduced Fares. On account of games of the Willamette Valley Base Ball League, the Southern Pacific company, will sell tickets at one and one-third fare for the round trip all persons wishing to attend the games Tickets will be on sale Saturdays and bundays when Koseburg team p;ays Eugene, and Fridays and Saturdays when they play Albany and Salem. L, Ball. 33 tf, a r thu I WHISPERING TOO I liave heard it whispered in loud tones that I was going to C& quit the music business, but that is only another from the old $3 source for the purpose of gaining a point. Even my new enterprise, it will bo only another step towards holding y3 my own against tho trusts and combines. I am a out the only piano dealer now on tlie coast that is going it alone and single handed. I sm grateful to the many friends who are giving me cj their patronage, for each month is bringing in greater results, fti I have never been guilty of selling a cheap piano for a high price & or of misrepresenting the goods I handle, or even my competitor lt except in a defensive manner. And the name NEEDHAM (as he has no connection with that house) must be dropped from his M ad. or he will hear something drop in regard to the price of Victor pianos that will surprise him and the public, or better see rfj clipping from au eastern paper in my window, where Victors are K$ offered for nearly two thirds less than is asked for them on this coast. This trick of holding a piano and keeping it in bad order just to knock its good qualities, is getting to be an old gag and sra. tlie public certainly sees it or we would not continue to sell so ' many high grade Needham pianos. g Do 3"0 remember not long ago, when a certain dealer got hold of a few Steinways and sold them for low prices just to v hurt its reputation? Did it hurt it? No and neither can they hurt NEEDHAM because it speaks for itself. All our last sales are a choice between NEEDHAM and Chickering, NEEDHAM winning out every time.
