Aagorft Packing House. Recording to the K. C. Stockman, un less present plans miscarrv, Kansas City will soon bo tho site of a slaughter ing and packing house for Angora goats. Dr. J. F. McKinley, of Chicago, one of the prime movers in the enterprise, has just left the city after consulting with Dr. Bailey and other well known Angora men in regard to the proposition of establishing the plant. The company which will father the Angora packing house is composed largely of Texas and Chicago parties. The concern is to be known as the Angora Lactic Food & Packing Co., and will be chartered under the laws of Texas with a paid up capital of $150,000 which will be increased as necessity de mands. James C. Page of Chicago, a retired board of trade man, is president of the company. Dr. McKinley is first vice president, Edward Baldwin of Chicago, is second rice president and Dr. Hanson, of the Lake Side Hospital Chicago, is treasurer. The Hume Land & Cattle Co., of Texas, is to manage the business end of the corporation and maintain the Texas office. Dr. McKinley, while in Kansas City stated that although the company is at present in eniDryo stale, there is no doubt but that it will soon have a plant in working order. It is the intention of the company to have the lacteal branch of the branch in Texas, where Angora milk will be condensed and desicatted to be sold for medicinal purposes. Cheese will bo manufactured and packed and macaroni and chees will be handled. In time, sanitariums will also be establish ed throughout different parts of the country where the patients will be fed diet composed of goat products. Th packing end of the industrv will in all probability belocated at Kansas City, pro Tided a suitable business is found. At this plant it is proposed to kill Angora wethers for their meat. A small fresh mutton trade will be started, but the principal aim of the house will be the canning of goat venison for the export trade. According to the doctor, Eng land is a good customer for American mutton and he thinks the Old World will be a good buyer of goat meat when its medicinal viitues are well advertised The plant will also tan Angora skins to be used as robes. It is said that nearl 50 per cent of the "fur" garments in us to-day are made of carefully prepared Angora fleece and in this way the com pany hopes to be able to make a goat'i carcass exceedingly profitable to them selves as well as to the goat producers, It is a well known fact that goats are not susceptible to consumption as are cattle, in fact, there is no authentic case on record of a goat ever having tuberculosis. It is claimed that in Lap land and those countries whore goats or deer milk is used largely as a diet and there are no cattle to speak of, con sumption is unknown among humans It is this phase of the goat that the company proposes to make a market for goat venison from. Its object is not to buck against the packers in the mutton trade, but merely to build up a new industry of a meat for invalids. Dr. McKinley says the only question that worries the officials of the company is the constancy of the goat supply. There are about 1,200,000 goats in the United States, of which some, 500,000 are Angoras. His plant at the least estimate will use 30,000 Angoras a year. and could handle 1,000 head a week or 52,000 a year were the supply assured As the Southwest is the great Angora district, Kansas City will in all prob ability be selected as the center for the packing plant. The doctor says the company desires that Angora growers of the country participate in the move meat. At present Angora wethers are killed by the packers for mutton, and as such bring all the way from $2.50 to $3.15 per cwt. If the new plant is installed, the promoters claim it will advance the market value of wether goats from 75c to $1 per cwt, or make them a third again as valuable as at present. Cattle for Sale. Seven head of cows and calves and one yearling Hereford bull, with the excep tion of one the cows are two years old with their first calves.
