That Josephine "per cent" will be out done in Douglas county for we have not heard of a single democrat who will not vote for him. Blew His Finger Off Mr; Olfred a S. P. Brakeman, who left on his run Saturday morning at 6:45, had his little finger blown off ami the whole hand very b.'dly shat tered. The accident occurred "at Drain, and the particulars are as follows : He had his hand in his trowser's pocket and in his hand were six torpedoes, used on the railroad as signals, and in some way when he went to jump off the way car, 'he struck the hand which was in his pocket aginst the corner of the car, and as a result the torjicdocs ex ploded, blowing his little finger off and shattering the whole hand very badly. He left for Portland on pasnenger train No 12, where he will be placed in the hospital, for medical and surgical treatment. A little child of Mrs. Zaidie Bishop, of Youcal'a, was playing near a bon fire in the yard recently when her clothing be came ignited. Her cries soon brought the mother t i the scene, who, with the prompt unselfishness of a mother's love commenced smothering the flames with her bare hands. Dr. DuGas, county physician, exam ined Miss Hendricks, of Elkton, on Sat urday, and pronounced ber insane. She was taken to the asylum at Salem on Saturday night. Rev. F. G. Strange, of Marshfield, pasced through Roseburg on Friday, on his way to Oakland, where he goes to attend the semi-annual Presbytery, which convenes at that place this week. W. Patterson, has the contract for the erection of a $1,000 six room cottage in Waite's Addition, for Mr. Wood, of the Railroad Eating House, Mr. Bryan quotes a fneud of Mr. Cleveland as saying that Mr. Cleveland has never yet refused to serve hii party, and while he may have an aversion to again entering public lite, he will not tail as at a time when he is tnuel need ed. Mr. Bryan then continues : "Well, if the reorraniiers obtain con trol of the partv, why should not Cleve land be the nominee? If the party has made a mistake in takiae the people's side, aud in casting Mr. Clevelana a-ide, why should it not take Mr. Cleve land op again? If it decide to cast the people aside, it would be a great deal better to nominate Mr. Cleveland, so that the voters would know certainly hat they were voting for (for or against) than to nominate tome other p'utocrat with Cleveland's views and sentiments, but whose position is not known to the people.
