Ashland, Or., Oct. 25. There is con siderable excitement in Northern Cali fornia today over the discovery of the re mains of Constable J. N. White, of Duna muir, who it is believed was murdered on his way home yesterday by hobos. This morning, at 8 o'clock, H. Scherer, proprietor of the Electric Light Com pany, found White, who is Co yoars old, lying in tho ditch that serves the Com pany with power. There was an ugly gash over his left temple that looked as though it had been produced by a gunshot or blunt instrument, and the back of his head was terribly crushed, while the body had evidently been in water all night. The Constable had been quite activt of late trying to rid the town of desper ate gaugs of hobos, who have been in festing Dnusmuir. A few days since, In arrested two for burglary, who success fully broke jail, and just previous to his death was searching for others who had burglarized a near-bv store.
