RAILROAD TOOLS ORDERED Twelve Big Wheel Scrapers and Plows Combined. READY f OR SPRING OPERATIONS Major Kinney Pleased With Roseburg and Encouragement Re- eelved Here. An order has been placed with S. K. Sykes, a local hardware dealer, for twelve large wheel scrapers and plows combined and several heavy wagoi-s, by the Oreat Central Railroad people tobe delivered and iu readiness to push con construction work out of this city as soon as the weather will permit in the spring. In the meantine, work on the dci)t and headquarters buildings in this city will be pushed to completion the preliminary survey and setting of grade stakes will move right along and everything will be in ehape for lively construction work when tli9 winter rains will have abated. Major Kinney, chief engineer, has jnst returned from Portland and rejwrta matters at the head office in excellent sliajx'. He is full of news regarding the progress of the railroad and kindred enterprises. He said contractor Small was getting ahead satisfactorily on the grade tetween Marshfield and Empire, and the con tract for the long trestle between those two towns has just been awarded to Roseburg and Marshfiuld niej. No other railroad construction is :ontcni plated until next spring on any part of theliiicitfit everything will be in read; ness for rapid work then. Of . the Ma jor's visit to Portland the Oregonian s:iid : "l!ocbnrg "please Major Kinney greatly. He announces the decision to make a railrmd-jmiction there lefore se curing lnd for any purioe. This, he says, was done in order that the rai'road project iiiiht not suffer from nl estate sjieculatio.i or other incident; I ojra- tious. Then an option was taken on 1000 acres of land that has been in liti gatio.1 si long that the city las grown a rou n i two sides of it, 100 acrts were donated to the Great Central Railroad for ilejwit and yams, a local cf-rioration was organized, w ith capital of 4 30,009, to handle '.he real eate, an I Major Kin ney has just bought the Wick of the cor poration at p.ir. Rose bur; people are m inifesiiiiir deep interest ia the rail road, and are doing what they can to help it along. They take hold of the construction, and will sec ire some of the benefits from that end of it.
