These planks are not issues then aud any j afimnt nf democratic sneakers or I papers to make them bo is ridiculous. The Republicans endorse the policy of the government in the Philippines and demand their retention. The democratic platform denounces the policy of the I'niled States in pre serTing peace in the Philippines and straddles the future with a strong "scuttle'' accent. Every hal lot for a democratic candidate ! against Americau control of the i'hib j lppines. iu:si8iueom umioiiiu is j sne involved, except the endorsement ofthe Republican policy of prosperi- ty versus the Democratic policy of CSiamuy ouu pamcB. iu nqiiiun- can legislatures have passed the in itiative and referendum amendment. "While it is f-trictly speaking, a non partisan measure, yet Republican leaders have, nrged its adoption and worked for its success. Xo demo cratic state has ever allowed the peo ple to vote on it. If you vote for a democratic legislative candidate you endorse the -scuttle" policy, you ask for low wages and low prices and de mand the repeal of the Torrens land law. A vote for the Republican leg islative candidates Hansbrough, Ro gers and Riddle means a larger mar ket for your products, increased val ties of your property, the upholding of American armies in the Philip pines and the overthrow of the anties in this state. VERDICTS WERE FOR CRAWFORD. Some of the Democrats of this city are endeavoring to cut down the handsome majority Hon. A. M. Craw ford will receive at the polls J one 2d for attorney-general by publishing a lot of rot in some little campaign sheets at Portland relative lo the Crawford-Willis snit in equity for an accounting and dissolution of part nership. Since the courts have given Mr. Crawfoid the verdict in every proceeding which Willis has institu ted against him, except Judge Han- an's decision, which decision, how-! ever, was REVERSED npon an ap peal to the Supreme Court, therefore we are at a loss to understand what his politic! enemies expect to make out of rehashing this case. The nn scrupuloos and under-handed work of the Democrats to injure Mr. Craw ford, is having a reverse effect and is making votes for him every day. THE PROXY BUGABOO. While the Review is trying Laid to make political capital out of theproxy purchasing bug-a-boo. and is con demning Hon. A. M. Crawford in this connection, let the voters bear iu mind the undeniable fact that the Fnllerton forces held nearly two thirde of all the proxies in the Rep lican convention, hence, if there was any wholesale proxy purchasing as the Review maliciously alleges, Mr. Crawford's opponents mu6t be credi ted with havioghad the longest sack. 1 he rale is almost universal that when a measure is submitted to the people if must have only a majority of those who vote on the question. But ihe constitution of Oregon is peculiar aud il is quite possible that before any amendment can b" adopt ed a majority of all the voters must vote yes t-veu if not one votes no. therefore it is,.importaut that every friend of the Iniuliye &nd Referen dum amendment shall vote. Climax of George W. Riddle's great convention hall grand 'stand play: "I smell a rat; I see it floating" in the air, and by heaven! I'll nip it iu the bud' Then he collapsed, while the convention hove a sigh of relief and then proceeded to nominate the best and strongest ticket ever placed be fore the voters of the count v. As the campaign draws to a close betting on the ret-ults occupies to a great extent the attention of the 6treet-corner loungers. On the re EUlts of the state t ckji there seems to be an abundince of Furnish money at 2 to 1.
