Tim Unit case to occupy the attention of the circuit court Wednesday was that of E Ilaight v I Abraham. Some months ago Haight, while indebted to Abraham, took occasion to leave Rose- I burg for New Orleans, but was uppre-, bended at Ashland and brought to trial before the last seeeion of the circuit court, where the case was settled by Haight turning over to Abraham all his Iiersonul effects of any value, including his ticket to New Orleaus, costing $4'. Afterwards Haight sued Abraham in the jiiBtics court at Winston to recover the value of his ticket aud won his case. Abraham then appealed the case be fore this session of the circuit court. Attorneys George Byron and L Rarzec acting for Mr. Hnight while Mr. Abra ham was represented by Atty .lohu Long and Frank Micelli. At a late hour last night the jury failed to agree and were discharged. The grand jury found a true bill against Thomas O'Connor who tin the Wth of last April, stole some meat from II I. Kruse's butcher shop at Oakland and tried afterwards to sell it at Crouch Hros ' saloon. He pleaded guilty ami was sentenced to two months in the county jail. THAIS W KM SLKS. Harry rauelli in company with one, Thomas Arnold, scarcely more than -a boy, is accused of obstructing ths South ern Pacific R. It. track on Mav IMh by placing a cattle guard rail, and angle bar and a block of w(l on the railway urve, known as the Grecian bend at Rice Hill. Section Foreman I.. II. Clame dis covered the obstruction in time to pre vent the derailing "f any train and im mediately notified the Portland office. Granelli end Arnold were arrested at Cottage Grove and held to await the barges. Grane!li was found guilty to- lay, and Arnold' trial will be held to morrow. It appears that the miscreant had been put off of a freight train at Rice Hill and in tkeir spite they placed the ol struction upon the track. Special cart- was taken by the railroad men to see that the track was kept clear for Presi dent Harriman' si-ecial train which ame along soon afterwards, and thus the dastardly attempt at train wrecking was fortunately discovered bsfore any harm had been accomplished. ti'kspay's skssiov.
