drnuk and disorderly and destroying
property. Sue resisted the officer and
was promptly placed in express cart and
given free transportation to the city Jail.
On reaching the cooler-she furnished $20
b dl to appear before the Cit Recorder
Wednesday on the charges preferred
against her, but forfeited her bail and
has very propsrly dropped oat of eight.
Diring the melea at the depot the

W-ie appropriated by a bystauding hobo,
wh3 was later arreeted and ths coat re
covered, be culprit doing duty on the
streets Wednesday for hia offense. Bach

notified CoroLer Twitchell. M r. Hutson
bad been complaining for several days
and had uked Dr. Bogue in regard to
heart disease eajieg that be was bother
ed with pains near his heart. This was
evidently the cause of hia death, as his
bind was over his heart when Jound.
Tae coroner f nod that the man died
from natural causes.
Will Retces to Oregox. Dr J. A.
Tonsend, of this city, has received in
formation that Bev. J. E. Blair, former
ly located at Oakland, bat more recently
at CI jrdale. Kentucky, will return to
Oregon at an early date and supply the
work of bis denomination at My tie
Creek and Gleodale. The many friends
of the reyerned gentleman will be pleased
to welcome him back to this county

Miles and wife, of Myrtle Creek are in
town today transacting business. la a
pleasant call at the Plaindeaxe office
we were informed that mil ing inter
est is still increasing in that vicinity and
that mnch development work on' claims
is beiiu done, and an occasional good
sale of mining property is recorded indi
cating that this mining district is begin
ing to attract the attention of capital
both local anJ foreign. There is no
duubt bat what the Mvrtle Creek district
will yet rival the famous Bohemia mines.
Mr. Miles also reports work progessing at
the prospective . oil Jwell near Myrtle
Creek. The excavating for the founda
tion of the drrick is about complete and
the heavy timbers for the frame work is
now on the ground and a force of carpen
ters at work on the construction of the
derrick. President McCoy has been
spending the week personally directing
tbe work.
Died. At tne Soldiers' Home, Mon
day evening, Nov. 13, 1901, Silas M
Gibson, of LtGrande, Oregon, aged 78
years. Deceased was formerly a mem
ber of Company K, Fi'teentb Kansas
Cava rr. He bad been a member of the
borne, since March 29, 1901. Tbe funer
al was held Wednesday, at 2:30 p. m.
burial in Saldiere' Home cemetery.
Died. At bis home at Myrtle Creek,
Taeeday, Kov. 19, 1901, Wm. Naae,
aged about 40 yearr, after a protracted
illness, of eonfampUon. The deceased
bad lived there for a number cf years
and was held in hnh esteem as a neigh
bor and citissn. He leaves one child to
mourn Lis death.

Cbas. Meade, tbe genial postmaster at
Sulphur Springs, near Gardiner, is trans
acting business in Roseburg. Though a
resident of tbe coast section for neatly
tea years this is Mr. Meade's first vif it
to tbe county seat and be is very favor
ably impressed with Boeebarg. He
being a reader of Djoglae county's favor
ite newspaper, tbe Plaixdbalkr, favored
as with a pleasant business call today.
He aaya there is considerable activity in
tbe timber and lumber industry in bis

talk of a new mill of large capacity being
established downjtbere, but as yet no
confirmation of the repot t or any definite
movement in this direction. The Lower
Umpqua country has a bright future.

Machinery Has Arrived W. M.
Moore one of the proprietors of tbe new
