The dccssion precipitated by Editor Yoaar of the Biker City lie pnblicac, who is also one of the Lewi.- and Clark Exposition Commissioner?, regarding the calling of a specisl session of the Oregon legislature i.r the purpose of appropriating 1,000,- 000 for the Exposition m 1305, has about ended, a personal canvas cf the legislators cf the state thowirg a majoiity opposed to Mr. YoangV scheme. In the first j.lace the amount proposed to be appropriated by the sUte is entire! v too large and altogether ont of proportion witb the state's wealth and financial re- - 1 i r . Kjurces. jx-ijiuer unpopular ie ture of the scheme is the proposition to bond the state for that amount, v vhich would bo greatly to the- liking of the money loanersand speculators bat justly objectionable to the com mon people, and if there is any one thing to which the rank and file of the tax payers are opposed, it is a 6pecial session of the legislatnre. and the proper way to defray the expense or provide a reasonable appropriation would be by taxation as other stale appropriations and ex penses are met In regard to the proposed Exposition, it is a most worthy end ccmuieod&fc'.e undertak ing deserving of the hearty rapport and cc-jperaiioa cf the people geLer ally throughout the Xonhwe-t aod Oregon in particular. It wil be a great advertisement fr the resources of the Xorthwefct and wiii bring macy people here to sea the richness aud many natural advantages of the country. It is an undertaking de 6eryingaid from tte State, from Con gress, from Portland, where it is to be held, and from the people gen erally, I at as we stated before, these demanls thonld be rtasonall?, other wise? there will be a lack of favor able sentiment and cc-operatica on the part of the pe:p!e, which is so much desired to assure the euccess of the undertaking. It is a popular move ment and meets with the favor of the masses, fclnt tie million dollar ap propriation talk must cease or it will infiijt an injury upon the exposition which will not be easily overcome. Senator Jones very sensibly an nounces his return to the republican party, which he left solely because he was a "bimetalist," and an advocate of the free coinage of silver, at 16 to 1, Bat ha truly says that the sil ver question is dead. Not only is there no silver party any more, but Senator Jones says there is no long er any need of free coinage of silver, even from the "bimetalists " poipt of view. The greatly increased pro duction of gold, be 6aye, has accom plished what they desired to accom plish by free coinage of silver. The per capita circulation cf money has increased, and the monetary base, gold has been broadened. Senator Jones some years ago presented the -silver side of the controversy, in a speech delivered in the Senate, more ably and elaborately than it was ever presented by any one in this country; bet be acknowledges that events Lave rendered Lis argu ments entirely out of date. iB&kin; L?ow!er Perfect, Delicious, ppetuingi; WO!
