Ilolmau, of Portland, was in the city, Saturday, looking after the interests of the fund to erect n monument in memory of the Ore gon Soldiers, who died during the recent war. It is a worthy object and should be assisted. The following circular letter explains itself: Roskucro, Or., leb. 6, iSoq. To Tm: Pi bi.ic: A meeting was held not long siucc in Portlaud to take .steps to raise funds to erect a monument in memory of the Oregon soldiers who died during the recent war with Spain. Gen. Chas. V. Beebe is chairman aud M. D. Wis dom is secretary. One committeeman has been selected in each county. The uudcrsigned has been selected in this county. I propose to get a local solicitor in each school district to solicit funds for the monument. If you can not act will you get someone to do so? You can say to the people that it is the plan of the committee to make this a popular sub scription by getting 5 cents from each person. You will have each' person contributing to write or have his or her name written dowu on the list with their postoffice address. When you have canvassed your vicinity send the names and money direct to M. D. Wisdom, Sec. retary Soldiers' Monument Committee, Room S, Hamilton Building, Portland, Or. Hach person who contributes 25 cents will in a short time receive by mail a special monument edition of a new history of the U. S. worth their money. We want to hurry the mattcrsoas to have monument erected so that the soldiers when they come home can dedicate it. If there are funds enough a nice picture of the monument will be made and a copy placed in every schoolroom in the state. The place where the monument will be erected has not yet been selected. The character of the monument will be de termined by the sum raised. We want Douglas Count to do its share. Very Respectfully, J. W. Wright. Committee man lor Douglas Countv. Administrator' Notice.
