Thomas Bailey Aldricii. FARM NOTES. More bay and Ks graiu makes the farm eatier to baudle. With good roads the farmer will bare a better choice of markets. The cost of keeping a good auimal is little more than a poor one. Save all of the wood ashes. They make a good fertiliser for small fruits or potatoes. Keep the manure hauled out during the winter, applying oh the Geld where it is most needed. The more a milch row will areimilate in excess of what is required for main tenance the better. Cleanliness is as eteential as shelter and food. Stock will net eat wet fod der to an advantage. No matter how 0o1 a pedigree an animal may have, iodiriJaal merit atid good conditions are esent'ul. The principal advantage in tiring rait as a fertiliser is that it helps to make plant food in the air available. With quite a number of farm prod ucts, low prices are caused cot so tuucb bv overproduction as by poor quality. With fatteniiig hogs, allowing food to remain within reach after the appe tite is ratified injures the di-sti n and rtecreiw thrift Farmer Union. Subsoiied iaud sne It-es than on suteoiled. as it hold water better. Potatoes boiled, mashed and mixed with wheat bran make excellent feed for docks. Tbe North Carolina station advises treating stored grain with bisulphite of carbon to kill weevil, rats, mice, etc. A good stock farm "should be a good grass farm. rot every part of tbe farm to some profitable nee. A stnnted animal will effect tbe profit of its future feeding. An important question for tho farrcer to study is less cost for production. Keep charcoal or wood ashes and salt where tbe hogs can help themselves. It will help maintain health. One serious objection to the feeding of old and voung stock together is that tbe older will crowd away tbe younger. Do not keep old ewes. It is better plan to stop breeding them when they get old, fatten them well and sell them for mutton. Farmers Union. Keeping the boys on tbe farm is im portant, as the farm often offers more opportunities than tbe cities, but the farm should be made attractive for tbe girls also. Every little girl should be giyen a flower garden and taught how to grow flowers of all kinds. Rotation enables tbe farmer to get larger crops. At the experiment sta tions it has been shown that on land uponwnicn corn, roots and oats were grown the yield of wheat per acre waa five buBhels more than on laud upon which wheat bad been grown several years succeeeively. The Holstelns. Rural Vw Yorker: Tbe Holland Cow, fincn the time f i'x'ur'n cui quest, at leant, has delt in tbe i'rieeland marshes, in tbe most luxuriant pastures of tbe world. She has been developed where water was aiwajs c!oe at band; where, to get her fox!, ahe need hardly move a rod; a bete, nbeo she took a bit of gram, ehe got a whole mouthful; and so she fitted bereif to ber envnonraent. Food waa ahundant ; the grew big, with a great etomarh to work over tbe lush. watery grans; she iirew light of bone because the had no hills to climb, and eh never whs a "ructlt-r." The Gazette, publibed at Emporia, Kansas, wbicb recently gained promi nence because of an editorial entitled : " Wbat'e tbe matter with Kanaas," says one of tbe main tioablee with Kansas is that tbe people bare been taught that tbe law can do something for them, whereas tbe actual fact ie that the social salvation of any community lies" fn hav ing large percentage of Individual hustlers. This is to the point. Individ ualism fa adapted lo "building op a great people, with a simple government, while paternalism lends to make tbe people weak and the government strong.
