Messrs. Kruse & Shambrook, grocers
of this city, shipped 500 tnrkeys to San
Francisco Sunday morning. This is the
beginning of an enterprise that bids fair
to grow into much importance in the
near future. There is no good reason
why Rosoburg should be out done in the
poultry business by our neighbor town,
Oakland. All that lfl necessary to build
up a big poultry business is for some en
terprisinc men to toke hold of if. Kruse
A Shambrook are just the men to do it.
They have mado a good start, having
shipped this winter nearly 1000 turkeys.
This firm intends to build up a demand
for poultry of all kinds. They propose
to handle all the surrounding country
can produce. Farmers will do well to
note this fact and prepare to meet the
demands in the future for this line of
trade. The demand abroad w ill increase
as the opulation of the large cities in
crease. And Kruso & Shambrook haye
determined to build up a market here.
O.RAND JURY'S REPORT.
Before final adjournment the grand
jury tiled the following report:
To lion. J. C. Fullerton, Judge: We,
the undersigned grand jurorB of the De
cember, 1SD6, term of court, having con
cluded our duties, respectfully report to
your Honor as follows:
We bave been in session ton dajs as
well as several evenings and examined
all cases brought before us thoroughly
and carefully sb possible.
We have examined the various count
offices finding from what examination
we ero a bio to give, that Each offices
were in a. neat conditiou and properly
conducted.
We also visited the county jail and
found its 'sanitary condition very bad
and would suggest'that it ba thoroughly
cleaned, and that the stove be fixed as it
fills the jail with smoke.
We also visited the poor tarm, and
suggest that the county court disposa of
the same as soon'as possible and secure
some hospitaler place near Roseburg for
the accommodation of the county poor as
we find the prtsent poor farm to bo an
unsatisfactory manner of providing for
the poor and if located near Roseburg
would bo under closer inspection of tho
county ccurt.
We appreciate the7courteiios extended
to us by yoar Honor, and are pleased, to
say that District Attorney Yates and his
deputy. I. B. Riddle, have b?eu atten
tive and rendered all assistance neces
sary to facilitate our labors.
