THE QOLD MINES. The Bohemia, Noonday, Champion, Music and the Golden Star, Mines Being Rapidly Developed. Forty-seven and a half miles ifi the measured distance from Oakland to the Bohemia group of sold mines The road is being rapidly but carefully made. The workers are within nine miles of the mines, having made about thirty eisht miles of way admirably cradei with soon i bed. and ample breadth . C. L. Chenoweth of Oakland and another gentleman made an inepeclory trip the other day, and were astonished at the easy Roing, and believe it will become one of the best mountain roads in the state. The Noonday Gold Mining Company expended $S,000 on a road to get their machinery in ; it was hauled from Cot tage Grove, Their road wa9 started on the 15th of May, being a continuance of an old road which reached to within ten milea of the mines. The Noonday road runs to the summit and connects with tho Oakland survey, and if the Douglas county people rush things, Mr. Jen nigs, the superintendent, says ho will require twenty-five teams beforo had weather, as he will ship via Oakland. He will be ready to ship concentrates this fall, getting out ten tons a day. The Noonday mice has rich sulphite oies which go $150 to the ton, and they will be shipped to the Tacoma smelters. In January, '96, the Noonday Com pany started a crosscut tunnel of 500 feet and tapped a vein 400 feet and got a ledge of ore several.f eet wide, and it is fair grade. They are now driving west and cross-cutting to both walla from center. Oa main drive base ore shows from $25 to $100 a ton. The Noonday, formerly the Annie, has a twenty stamp mill. The engine and the boilers are in place, and the frame at the mill is up and be ing shingled. The mill will be com pleted by the 15th and in operation on the 20th of October. They are also building a tramway from the mine to lh3 mill, distance of 3,000 feet, and are progressing rapidly so as to have every thing in readiness for thi grand start. The officers at the Noonday Gold Mining Company are: President, . B. Lee; Vice President, Henry D. Linghlin; Secretary, George E. Willigan; Tre nrer. Georje I. Atkins, all of Chicago. The superintendent, P. J. Jenuincs, lias been mining since 1S76 in Arizona, Ne Mexico, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Brit ish Columbia, Washington and no Ore gon. He has, as superintendent, em ployed hundreds of men at a lime, and has no 117 on the pay roll, ai d aboai that number will henceforth be steadily employed. His uSn is at Coiu Grove. There he has a five stamp mill, Chicago make. He intended to run it by water but it didn't pan oat as be expected, so he is putting in an engine Bad will have the Golden Star shining by the first of December. He has a vein two feet thick and continuous in length, as shown in bis having opened 3,000 feet, and it is very rich in free gold. A number of smaller properties are being developed.
