Mr. Mitchell has been laboring for the last ten jeare to amend the constitution to require the election Tuesday, Aug. 23, tho third anuual exhibit of tho Second Southern Oregon District Agricultural Society at Roseburg opened its lists for entries for premiums. But little mis done the first day in tho way of entries. A gooly number of 2 oo campers were on tho ground fixing up l 00 their tents aud makinj arrangements lor M the week's cannuue. Wednesday the entry clerks were pressed with work and tho pavillian rapidly filled with the varied exhibits bcloiictiic to that de partment, and by noon Ihe pavillian pre sented a splendid appeaninco. Notwith standing tho soason has been unfavor able for graiu, fruit and vegetables, tho display is magnificent, and challenges tho admiration of tho beholder. Tho exhibit at the pavillian is the center of chief attraction and is thoronged with visitors throughout the day, feasting their eyes upon the grand spectaclo it presents. K.UK NOTES, The stock exhibit is not ery exten aivo, but what is oa exhibition is good There are about SO head of fine cattle, Red Polled, Herfonl, Jerseys, Durhams and Holateins. There are but few horses including race stock, which are tho ob jectsof chief attraction. Thero are but few hogs or sheep. Of tho sheep thero aro none of tho Marinos. The poultry is tolerablv well represented. We no ticed the Leghorn white and brown the Black Minorcas, Lauushangs and Beyeral other not entered and labeled a coop of Bronze turkeys aud a coop ot ducks. Those on exhibition wero very fine birds and will when displayed make a fair showing. Tho fruit and vegetables in tbe pa villion, considering ,tbe season, is very creditable. Tbe canned fruits and jellies make a very fine showing. The fine art exhibit is very fine. The needle work, ombroidery, crochet and quilting a-e quite extensive and are very attractive, especially to the fair sex. The tloral display, whila it is not very large, is quite beautiful and delightful to gazeupjn. Owing to the fact that most of the en tries were beins made Wednesday, at the time of our visit a large number of articles of many clasaei had not been entered and labeled and for that reason we are unable to give a complete list in today's paper. Mitchell's all right on the great ques tion, protection. The Pops Win. Tuesday was the day set by the demo cratic state central committee for a con ference with the popalista to arrange for a fusion. The democrats have been plaving their card to get the best of the game. They were firm for Bryan and S;wall electors, but the pops wanted the tiil to the kite as well as a half interest in the kite, for the reason, as the pop: argued, that tbe democrats are not in it, on account of their meager numbers. This accusation by the pops was worm woJ and gall to the democrats but they had to take their medicine without a sugar coat or disolving capsule and so they vielded to tbe "measley" pops. Thus the Tammanv ticer had his hide der the same rules as trotting races. stripped off him, sprinkled with snuff to trance, ten per cent; puree, f 10, keep the moths off and hung upon a peg and John C.
