has received a clear majority of 214 over
all competitors for the county seat.
This change will make the county seat

Mr. Fellows of Looking Glass is in the
ctly today, circulating a petition for a
change of road from this city to Looking
Glass. It is claimed Uiat the pre posed
route will shorten the distance and be

ing largely signed.
Mrs. Joe Jones of Spokane came up
on the local last night on a visit to her
parents, Mr. and Jlrs. John Wright of
this city. Her arrival was quite a sur
prise to her sisters, Mr?. Van Buren and
Mrs. D. S. West, and a happy meeting
was bad all around. Mrs. Jones has
been absent several years .
Bristol's trained horses paraded
through our streets at neon today and
attracted a great .deal of attention from
both young and old. They will perform
at the Opera House this evening, to
morrow afternoon and night. They are
said to te the best trained horses in the
world. Go and see them.
R5r. C. C. Bell of Portland, Or., is
holding revival services this week at the
Pino Grove U. B. church. On Sunday,
the 14th, there will be a basket msetiog.

E. E. Richards of the Racket Store at
Rosebnr was here, Saturday, solicitin g

Richards' carries a large line of samples
representing the firm of Wanamaker &
Brown, Philadelphia, and warrants sat
isfaction. Last Wednesday ono team and five
men left for the Bohemia road and Sat
urday four team and twenty-five men
with a large amount of supplies and
tools left to commence active work on
the proposed road to tbe mines.

On this line of thought Rev. G. W.
Black discoursed in his Memorial Day
sermon in this city, to a large and ap
preciative congregation ; paralleling the
life of tbe old soldiers who endured the
trials, hardships and privations for prin
ciple during tbe rebellion with tbe life
of persecution which Paul endured for
the cause of Christianity. Tbat our
readers may perceive the similitude, we
herewith givs Mr. Black's own words :

Educated Horses.
An entertainment outeide the usual
order of theatrical affairs will be given
in tho Opera House Monday and Tues
day evenings, when Prof. Bristol's fa
mous school of educated horses appear.
These wonderful animals haye met with
great popular success for several years
In all the large cities of the East, this
being their first visit to California, whero
no djubt they will be accorded general
favor. They do not perform the usual
tricks done by horses in a circus ling,
but are taught feats never before at
tempted, which they accomplish with
astonishing perfectiou. There will be a
matinee session Tuesday afternoon, at
3 o'clock, when all the little children are
given a pony ride. The San Francisco
Examiner of April 28th says: "Ono of
the most remarkable lerformacces ever
witnessed in tbis city was that of Pro
fessor D. M. Bristol's trained horses at
the Auditorium last evening. The ani
mals are trained to a wonderful degree of
erfection and one almost expects to
hear them talk. Thev play at echool,
put up jokes on tbe teacher, carry chairs
and tables, dance, do penance for infrac
tions of school rule, tell tho time of
night and answer problems in arithme
tic given by tbe audience.
"Denver, the trick mule, ia a wag in
bis way. The performance concludes
with a military drill, in which perfect dis
cipline is maintained. The Auditorium
was packed to its greatest capacity.
