Editor Plaindealer : Will you kindly allow me space in the columns of your valuable paper to correct a mistake which tho Review published, in regard to an autograph quilt which is being made by tho ladies of the W. R. C. of this place. Tho Review has it that the quilt, when completed, is to bo sold to tho highest bidder. So much correct. The proceed: to be sent to the soldier's homo. Not correct. Their correspondent was misin formed. The W. R. C. of Yoncalla are making an autograph quilt. Tho blocks are of Duo bleached muslin on which is em broidered a neat design. Each lady so licits names at live cents per name; which names are neatly embroidered on a block. The quilt when finished will represent the stars and stripes, and will bo sold at auction. Proceeds to replen ish our fuuds. The ladies of the Reliel Corps asks yon to do them the kindness to correct tho mistake of tho Review. Our corps is a lively little corps the members being energetic ladies. We hope to do n good work in teaching tho rising generation to love and respect their country and their country's llig. " A Mi:.Mi5i:i! or the Coupm THE TICKET. "It ia ie ticket" that will win. It wasmado in harmony, seyeral strong candidates giving way to their compet itors without murmuring. Out of the multitude of aspirants it was impossible to suit every one. Someone necessarily must giye way. But as a rule the dele gate method of selecting candidates is the most satisfactory that can be deyised for selecting candidates as the choice of a party. In the convention, Friday, out of 99 delegates elected at the primaries there were but 6 proxies. The convention, as a whole, made an excellent ticket and was qnite equally distributed over the county. At the head of the ticket in Hon. A. W. Reed from Gardiner for state senator. Coming up the Umpqua Valley, Mr. M.D. Thompson of Scotts burg for commissioner, Hon. J. T. Bridges of Drain for representative at the north end of tbo county, Hon. G. W. Riddle at the south end and Hon. A. M. Crawford in the middle Rose burg. Daye Shambrook frora.Cole3 Val ley for sheriff, W. S. Britt of" Riddle for assessor. Mr. W. P. Heydon, for sur veyor from Coles Valley. W. A. Fra ter, though now of Roseburg, came from Ten Mile when first elected. Mr. Shupe was for years a resident of Oakland before his appointment to the land office. O. C. Brown of Roseburg, for school superindent, until quite re cently was a resident of Daer Creek. K. L. Miller "of Roseburg, for cor oner. S3 much 03 to locality of can diates. Let U3 consider then as to their being able, honest and faithful. At the head of our ticket is Hun. A. W. Reed, a thorough business man who will carry business into legislative work on true business principles. A man who has managed his own business success fully is qualified to manage that of oth ers entrusted to him. As to his honesty and integrity, the high esteem of the community of which he forms a conspic uous part is proof ot that. Then be has pledged himself, by accepting the nomi nation of the convention, to indorse and work to carry out the measures embraced in the resolutions which the convention adopted. For representatives Hon. J. T. Bridges of Drain, Hon. A. M. Crawford of Rose burg and Hon. G. W. Riddle of Glen- brook, are representative men. Messrs. Bridges and Riddle, having had some experience in legislative' work, are well prepared to carry oat the pledges de manded of them by the resolution of the convention, and Mr. Crawford, a lawyer of high repute and acknowledged ability, has pledged himself to work for retrench ment in state appropriations. These gentlemen are all, straightforward busi ness men, just such as are required of legislators, and they are also men of hon esty and integrity. BRIEF MENTION. From Saturday's Daily. W. G.
