Mr. Rosa delivered an interesting, logical and at the same time amusing sermon on the subject of lore to God and man. He illustrated the love a christain should be in poaess ion of by objects that bad come under bis own observation that brought emiles to the faces oTthe large number of per eons present, yet, at the same time giv ing a realistic view of the dissimilarity of that love and regard existing between man and man, and that love embraced and extended to a lost race by God him self. Religious. At the .Baptist church latt night Be v. E. A. lias preached to a large congre gation from the text, "For God Lath not appointed us to wrath" 1st Thee. 5th chap. lh verse. The speaker began by answering the hypothetical question. What is the strangest thing to you ? He answered It is the strangest thing in the world to me that so many men and women are not religious. He thought that prudence, if not the love of God, ought to make them religious, because they are safer in religion than in the world of Bin. He thought if anr ono in the city should announce that the bridge across the river had been condemned. they would not try to cross it for fear the bridge might go down with them they would take advantage of the doubt of the bridges' safety and keep off. So the sinner ought to take the safe side take the benefit of the doubt of safety in 'sin and keep off the highway of transgres sion. There is considerable interest and no small degree of excitement in these meetings, the speakers appealing chiefly to the sentiment of fear fear of the tor ments of hell and many are aakine. what tball I do to be saved ? An Overflow fleeting. The attendance at the Baptist church last night was so' great, to see and hear Mr. Boss, that the house could not con tain inem and an overllow meeting was improvised at the Presbyterian church and about GO or 70 left and went to that church, where they listened to Mr. Foster, a returned miesionary from China. 31 r. Foster discoursed to bis hearers on the Salvation of Christ that a belief in Christ would save the believer from the "ruin of sin;" that without this faith we are lost in this world and the world to come. His remarks were followed by a few words by Rev. Mr. Dil worth and a season of giving testi mony, a la God's Begular Army at the barracks by tsevcral lay members. County Treasurer's Notice.
