Sunday Sermon.
Rer. G. W. Kennedy preached a fine
sermon Sunday. The subject of his dis
course was "Bible Holiness, Practicable
and Attainable." He presented as the
basis of his discourse the following Scrip
tural words, "I beseech jou present
yourselves a living sacrifice, holy accept
able to God." In elucidating bis sub
ject, he referred to the ancient time of
offering sacrifices upon the altar, con
trasting the same with man's making a
sacrifice of self to serve the living and
true God. A man in making such sacri
fice is no more bis own, but belongs to
God and necessarily must consecrate
himself to his service, an 1 pros on to
holiness of life in all things, and then he
will enjoy an eternity of joy and happi
ness in the eternal world. It was not
the external and material body that was
to be made a sacrifice, but the whole
man, body, soul and spirit, which if
given to the service1 of God, constituted
a holiness of life that would receiye its
reward. Nothing was unreasonable in
man, when he gave himself entirely to
God, and acted in accordance with the
divine spirit. The sermon was eloquent,
and delivered with much earnestness and
the audience seemed spellbound by his
utterances as he presented his thoughts
in glowing words, proving the conclu
siveness of the arguments be advanced
in support of the position ho occupied
with regard to Bible holiness.

A number of our citizens are feelim
quite indignant because their premises
have been searched for Saml. G. Brown.
the escaped convict. This ill feeling
against the officers ought not to exist.
They were only doing what the laws
provide for when, by rumor or other
wise, they may have reason to believe
that a criminal may have secreted him
self upon any citizen's premises.
This morn ins the skv waa clear and
the sun rose bright, the air was cool
and bracing and all nature had a vernal
appearance, minus the birds; but by
two o'clock the clouds obscured the sun
and Old Pluvious begun to show signs of
a downpour: but up to the hour of going
to press the clouds were still suspending
their watery vapor in mid air. By the
above we mean no offense to the weather
