The Three Traveling Bags.
There were three of theru, all of sliiii
iug black leather; oue ou ton of the pile
of trunks, one on the ground, oue in the
owner's hand, all going to Philadelphia;
nil waiting to be checked.
Tho last bell rang. The baggage man
bustled, fuming, from one pile of bag
gage to the other, dispensing chalk to
tiie trunks, checks to the passengers,
curses to the porters, in improved rail
way style.
"Mine! Philadelphia!" cried a stout.
military-looking man, with enormous
whiskers and a red face, crowdlmr for
ward as the baggage man laid his baud
on the first bag.

for this now!" entreated a pale, slender,
carefully-dressed young man, for the
ninth time holding out bag No. 2.

The baggage man meditatively
watched It as it sped away in the dis
tance, and then as if the thought had
suddenly struck hini, slnpping his thigh,
he exclaimed, "blast if I dont believe"

last fellers the wrong checks. The
ousted little black things was all alike,

"Telegraph," suggested switchman.
"Xever you mind," replied the bag
gage man. "They was allgoing to Phll

The scene shifts to the Continental
Hotel, Philadelphia Front parlor, up
stairs. Occupants, tin. young gontlo
man alluded to above and a young lady.
In accordutico with the fast usage of the
times, tiie twain had been made oue in
holy matrimony at 7:30 A. M.; duly kissed
and congratulated till 8:15; put aboard
the express train at S:45, and deposited
at tho Continental, bag and baggage, at
12:5S.
They were seated on the sofa, the
black broadcloth coat-sleeve encircling
tlio slendor waist of the gray traveling
dress, the jetty moustache in equally
affectionate proximity to the glossy
curls.

drawing a breath of evident relief.
