Police Had Them Under Surveillance
for Some Time and Caught Them
■n the Act—One a Gambler , At
other a Waiter, the Third Just
Plain “Pendleton Boy."

DtTSOI’. MICH.
?
Last night at midnight. Policeman
Thompson and Scheer arrested throe
young men while in the act of smok
ing opium in the lodging house man
aged by Tom Scott, on Court street
Marshal Carney has had the men
under surveillance for several days
lid yesterday, learning where they
were stopping, ordered them und yr
arrest.
One of the men is a waiter, an
other is a gambler recently arrived
in the city, and the other is a Pen
dleton boy.
When tbe officers ar-
rived the smokers had evidently
heard of the intended raid, for they
were in the act of hiding the layout
as the officers entered the room
They were captured, however, and
toe gambler and the Pendleton resi
dent were taken to the city jail. The
waiter was completely under the in
fluence of the drug, and was so limp
that the officers allowed him to re
main where he was. intending
to
round him up this morning, but be
has not been seen, and it is thought
that he has taken advantage of the
opportunity
and

Here is a Pendieton woman who
indorses this claim:
Mrs. George Hays, living at No^
-23 Lilleth street, corner of West
Bluff street says: “I can recommend
Doan's Kidney PiUa to all sufferers
from backache and other kidney
troubles., with utmost confidence that
they will do everything that has been
claimed for them by thoae who hare
used them as well as by the makers
The trouble for which I used them
was principally backache, with which
I had been bothered off and on for a
long time. It hurt me badly when I
sttxiped to do any housework that
■ aused a strain on the back. I road
in advertisement about Doans Kid
ney Pill« and decided to try them,
feeling that they could do no harm,
even it they did no good. I got a
box in the store of Brock A McCo
mas Co. and used only one box, as
that was sufficient to relieve
backache and I hare not felt
since.”
