acre in the run of the first day. and
as the field was light it is expected
that the crop will average more than
the figures of the first day's work
would indicate.
The wheal 1» not in need of the
weather that is prevailing now, for it
has filled to the capacity of the chaff
What it needs now is sunshine ami
warm, still days. A hot wind to shat
ter the heads and buru the xtraw
would do lots of damage and loose
lots of the grain, but some cairn,
warm days would be of great benefit
to the crop, it cannot be said at this
time what the yield will be, though
the report that it will not reach over
a two-thirds crop is in the main rea
sonable. In some of the county it
may go above that and climb close to
the normal mark, if the weather con
ditions are good from now until the
time of harvest.
The wheat at this time Is matured,
the heads living full and ¡dump and
hard. But it needs warmth to ripen
and dry the grain ready for the har-
vester. A few more days of sun will
make it ready to cut.
