Advice to Youn; Men.
The yoanj; men of America arc provcrbi-
ally fast. They have crown faster yoar by
year for many years, until now "Youtij
America' is found everj-wkcre. Thirty
years ao boys were required to work a por
tion of the time, then they were not dressed
up every day ia the week and found at the
age ot 14 gallanting the girl?. Now it is
different. Work is by inaay considered
dishonorable, and young men and boys are
taught by foolish pirents to so consider it.
But young man take heed and parents be.
ware. This is the first step oa the down
road to ruin. Our adrice to you is to go ta
work, learn some trade or honorable pro
fession, devote your leisure hours to read
ing, spend your earnings at home, never ac
quire the habit of using tobacco or loung
ing around saloons or other public places
where yonr morals will surely be corrupt
ed. Never use protanc l.m,rcagc. Think
for yourself and form your opinio from
facts. Believe nothing unless you hare
some evidence of its truth. Don't take the
opinions of others as facts because yen think
they ought to know better thin yea. Prove
nil things and hold fast that that is good. Be
lieve nothing that conflicts with reason and
the natural laws. Take care of the present
and let the past and future take care of
themselves, tie tin a to ail, treat every
body kindly and with respect. Be open
hearted, plain spoken and avoid deception
and finally be just asd fear net and marry
young.
Mrs. Logan Robinson.
This lady delivered a lecture at the
Court House on Monday evexing but to
quite an audience. Subject: Spiritualism
and its bcnsSts. She proved from the
bible the truth of spiritualism, aad handl
ed her subject with some degree of a ability.
She is a pleasant speaker, though on this
occasion she did not speak with that force
that we had expected, but it was psrhaps
owing to ill health, as she was ssfferirg
considerably at the time, sad the mm
wras in a very poor condition. Daring her
lectsre she had her healing powers tested
by Mra. Baker, who was scfferisg with
neuralgia ia the head, and had been affec
ted with it since February lat. After
few maaipulatioas, Mrs. BaLer was reliev.
cd of pain, aad up to the present there Lave
been no symptoms of its return. She has
quite a number of patients in town aad we
understand nearly all are Lcisg rdkrrfd.
She will lectare again this evening. Sb
ject: Hew I came to be a spiritualist
She will also acnocscc her cafekct lor

Some interesting itaUstics are bad from
the Commissioner of the General Land
Office showing the volume and direct Iah
of hornesteid pre-emptions. The aawust
of public land entered for settlement un
der the homestead act in the year endisg
June SO. 1S7D, -was something over 600.OW
acres, an area larger than that of New
Hampshire. The average n uraber of m
taken by each, homestead settler is 13).
On this basis the number of families erect
ing their roof trees on the public doaain
was some 00,000. The whole number of
homestead entries from the time the home
stead law went into o Deration to Jane 39,
1873 a period of sixteen years was 3Si,
Si8. Allowing 120 acres to each settler,
the whole amount of land thus occupied
would be 49,181,760 acres. This immense
domain would make fifteen States as large
as Connecticut. It is larger by three rafll
ion acres than all England, and it exceeds
the combined areas of Massachusetts, New
Hampshire, Eh ode Island, Connecticut and
New York by an area about equal to that of
Delaware. In the number of homestead
entries, Kansas takes the lead with CI, 034
Minnesota stands next with 51,575, and
NeLraska third with 47,002. In the rale of
increase from 1877 to 1879, Dakota took the
lead. The number of homestead entries in
that Territory in 1877 was 1,154, and in 1870
it was 4,128. In the States of Kansas, 11 in
sesota and Nebraska and the Territory ol
Dakota the homestead entries in 1877
Amounted to 910,807 acres and in 167S to
232,6G3 acres an increase of over G0Q per
cent. In 1872 the total area covered by en
tries under the homestead law amounted
to 5,000.000 acres. In 1873 the entries fell
Off to 3.793.000 acre, in 1873 to 2.350.000.
jfcsd in 1877 to 2,178.000 acres. In the year
ea&ing December ol. loTo, tne entries were
about 6,000,009 acres. The increase is
cbecriBg snd hcalhful sign.
