A j"juxe Claim.
New Yoek, Sspt. 25. The World's Wash
ington special cays: It is said that Tbeophile
Landreaa, of France, and John C Landreaa.
of New Orleans, will le a claim with Congress
at its next session to collect a viit sum of
xeoney from the Peruvian Government.
Nearly half a century ago the Government of
Pern saade a law offering to anyone who
should make new discoveries to add to the
wealth of the country one-third of each dnv
covcrisa. Tbeophile Landreaa, a scientist
and explorer, discovered deposits of guano in
Pent from which the Government derived
sailliaas of dollars revenue. Landrean's claim
of the discovery was recognized in 1SC5, but
the Government was unable to pay one-third
raterest in the discoveries and a compromise
was agreed upon. Just as the claim was about
to be settled the Pardo revolution broke out
aad the national treasury was exhausted in
trying to suppress it. Since then tho chronic
revolutions of the country have prevented the
discoverer from settling his cfaim. John C
Landreaa is a brother of Tbeophile, and ad
vaaced him money to prosecute his discovery,
.receiving in return a half interest in the pros
pective rewards. As Landreaa of New Or
leans is a natnraliwd citizen of the United
States, he claims the assistance of this Gov
ernment to aid him in the collection of his
soney. The full amount of Landrean's claim
k said to be over (100,000,000, but claimants
are wiffiag to make a compromise with Pern
for a portion of that sum.

TDden's counsel, the Hon. Tbos. Earland, of

officers, while the other passed the books to
a cofitpkator oa the stairway. At this j one
tare Mr. Wettmore, the witness, pursued the
robber to the foot of the stairs, but by means
of a carriage standise ready, the villain es
caped aader cover of the night. As soon as
papers coald be issued, over which there was
some delay, owing to the lateness of the hour,
ssoaated officers started in pursuit, but suc
ceeded only in overtaking the empty carriage
aboet two boars after the robbery. It is said
the erideace that was being procured from
the books was making an overwhelming case
