The circumstances were about as follnw-: A bolt belonging in a knuckle of the threshing rod had been lost and replaced by one that was too long and projected beyond the ring that covered the knuckle, making a very dangerous piece of machinery to come in contact with while in motion. 3Ir. C. in attempting to oil the separator came too near the rod at this point, when the bolt caught his clothes and wound him around the rod, but not long however, for he soon stopped the horses. No one saw him fell and no one knew wh at bad stopped the machine until his groans wctc heard, when he was immedi ately found and extricated from his uncom fortable and eminently cloogerous situs lion. Report says some bones were broken in bis breast and several ugly wounds were made in different parts of the body. BlLLT B. Savta Roa, September 2Cv This morn- Ing G. L. McCoy, of Healdburg, attempted to assassinate Jude A- Thomas, a lawyer of this city. The two met on Fourth street. when McCoy, saying -You have robbed me of my wife aad property, and you shall die," or words to that cUbci, firing a shot from a Sharp's 4 shooter, which took cfltct in tlie judge's abdomen. The judge at tacked lils assailant with a cane. Tlie par- tics were quickly separated and McCoy taken to jail and the judge to his residence' where he is now resting easily. The wound is probably not fatal. Judge TTioma had been attorney for Mrs. McCoy in obtaining a divorce from McCoy and a division of the property,, which was the occasion of the attack. a Col.Tfcsmith came to this connty in 18(3, when there was not a house between here and Sacramento.
