The Portland Standard says: Oregon is beginning to awaken that interest In the minds of Eastern people which our climate, situation, scenery and unlimited resources deserve. The former owners of the mine, as near as we can ascertain, were as follows: Uncle Billy Moore, Isaac Klopp, Isaac Xail, A. G. Ta bor, sod Messrs. Burnham and McCann. The parties purchasing are Messrs. This will open up a new era in Eastern Oregon, and particularly to Umatilla county, hlch will bsilookcd toss the source of supplies required by a large mining population. The terras upon which tins iniu5 has been sold is about as follows: purchasing price, 50,000; 15,000 paid down; 10.000 on the first day of July; the balance in tlx and twelve months. Attention Is calleu to the following: The Portland Standard says at a meeting of the stockholders of the Monumental Mining Company held on the 5th Inst, tho following named men were elected direc tors: E.J.W Stemmc, Wau Grant, P. Mr. Barnard of Portland tpen t several days In this vicinity during the past week looking alter an appropriate lo cation, and it is believed that he concluded definitely to locate the same at this point "We can also safely state that Col T. A great ad vantage attending the wool graded by Col. Lang, and baled, is that the house of Den ser, Rice ic Co, of Boston, will make ad vances on the same to the amount of X percent. The ad vantages of the erection trft this hease arc many, one of which is that Eastern Oregon wool will hereafter have i n identity; it will net be classed as California or Oregon, bet as Eastern Oregon wool; and this ks of va; importance; a redaction of frieght to the amount of oae-half or more is another great advantage, saving to the wool-growers of this county en an ex. portatioa of 1.250.000 pounds the sura of 5,250. In this State, where we have no State normal Schools, such Institutes are indispensably necessary. There, teachers of less expert ence hear in detail the reviews of plans and practices, preferences, etc, of those of more experience in teaching; tbe old stereotyped ideas concerning modes of school govern, mcnt, plas of teaching, preference of text books, etc, give way to the improvements of the day, and uniformity is established Instead of irregularity and confusion.
