American Demonstration. A'responsive and congrat ulatory meeting of Americans to the French Revolution was held in New York city, in last April. The ven erable M. M. Noah presided, and among those of the address and resolution committee, were Messrs. Gree ley, Sedgwick and Bryant. The address is a model for brevity and sentiment. France, says the address, baf no king but the Lord of Hosts and the sovereign people governing in his great name. The aid of France to America in her early struggles is alluded to, as inciting us to hail with joy our sister Republic. France, once the most powerful of monarchies in Europe, has now become tfie most powerful of Republics we are to show her by our example, that the fondation 00 a Republic if Law and Liberty Libeitv and Law "one and indivisible;" may she tranquilly succeed, as we have done, in es tablishing a free government, the admiration of tlte world, and which the world iu arms cannot subdue. The address, with the resolutions was of course unan mously adopted. The representatives of seven differ ent nations were introduced to the meeting, amid cheers, three times three. After stirring speeches by several gentlemen, the meeting adjourned to re-assemble on the evening of the 11th in, the Park. Gen. Scott's Force. When Gen. Scott marched upon Mexico, a city of near 200, 000 inhabitants, defended by thirty thousand Mexican troops, with forts and batteries at every point, his entire force, exclusive of teamsters, did not probably exceed eleven thousand men. It was an exremely bold undertaking, and would have been desperate, but for the excellence of his troops.- (N. Y. Jour. Com.
