Mr. Editor. I see in the columns of the Spectator a second address to the people from " Vox Populi." I think the community are under obligations to him for calling their attention to the importance of their attend ing to the situation in which we would find ourselves if Congress should only donate half a section and I must beg you to urge the subject on the people, and which you can so ably manage, and obliye one of I ho citizens of Oregon, and one who has had to contend with CLAIM JUMPERS. We have not had the pleasure of reading the first article from the pen of " Vox Populi," as our "big" neighbor the Spectator does not favor us with an ex change, supposing, quite probably, that our diminu tive size places us out of the line of usual courtisies. The paper containing this writer's last communication we received by the kindness of a friend, and have read the article alluded to with much satisfaction. We like the spirit of the following: "N hy, sir, I should mucb prefer to postpone the re ception of the general Go eminent another jear, until Congress could be impressed fully, and fairl, with the justice of our claims; as lumng'comc here" at the in stance of that fiovernm Mil as having come here upon the tacit promises of Congress as having achieved a grand national object as iia ing encountered every uescripuon ot danger, and distress as Having loughi single handed against a savage enemy, and ten thou sand other things, equally dangerous and dillicult all or which for the hem-: fit of the parent country; and we iiesitate not to believe, that such a course of pro cedure on the part of this territory, would accomplish all that we desire. And so far horn alienating the feel ings and respects of the parent country, it would be the means of more permanently sccuringlhem. "A tremulous political coward is as great a political curse as can be inflicted on any people." Verily a "political coward" is a "political curse," and Oregon has been peculiarly cursed in this way. We have only room at present to say that we join with this earnest and truthful writer in recommending to the citizens of the various counties to hold meetings to consider upon their interests in this matter. In the event of a donation of but half a section, we should have some protection for our claims while the lands are being made ready for market. A country editor says, "On our outside will he found a torn coal and other articles." Many an editor is found with lorn articles on their outside. Never tell a woman that she is handsome, but leave her, by your manner, to infer that you think so. A DM IN LSTH ATU K'S NOTICE.
