THE OREGON BATTALION. Tne gt. Louis Republican publishes Ibe subjoined letters from the Battalion of troops destined for this country: Little Nemahaw, Sept. 16, 18i7. Ttin Oregon Battalion is progressing rather slowly. We left H. Leavenworth on Ibe 28lh ult. foi Grand Island, and on the 3d received orders lo proceed t Ta ble creek, build quarters and winter there, You are aware that this command could have left for the prai ries nearly two month's since, if the necessary provi sions had been made for their outfit. As it is, we have to remain almost in idleness until Spring say April or Way. Why can't we be sent lo Mexico or some place where we can do some service? There has been some, dissatisfaction among a few of Ibe companies composing this battalion, owing to the election. The Colonel has pursued, so far, a very cor rect course, and I have no doubt but we will be all content and well satisfied with him. Capt. Craig left with his company on yesterday to protect the annuity of the Poltawattomies on its uay to Council Bluffs. A few dajs since a war parly of the Sioux killed twenty or thirty Oltoes. Ft. Kearney, Sept. 2-2, 187. Gentlemen The Oregon battalion arrived here on the 18lh inst. An express that arrived here from the Pawnee village, gives the information that the binux had taken possession of that village, in the absence of the Pawnee braves, who were hunting buffalo. The Pawnees were expected in daily, and it is supposed that a fierce battle has taken place. The Sioux have, iT joined by the war parly who attacked the Oltoes, as is generally supposed, over two thousand warriors. Mr. McElroy, who is just in from the Pawnee village, stales that the Sioux destroyed a blacksmith shop and to .Is, and also injured his properly, and told him, with the other whiles there, to remain quiet and they would not ba molested. Capt. Sublelle, with three lieuten ants and sixty-four privates and non-commissioned offi cers, leave for Grand Island on to-morrow, lo accompa ny Lieut. Woodbury in selecting a suitable site for a frl. It may be that the Sublelle Hangers will have a little brush if so, you will be duly advised of it. Yours, etc. Another letter from Ibe same post, dated on the 21st, says Ibat about 500 Otto Indians arrived there on the 19lh ult., the Sioux h iving made a descnl upon their village near Fort Kearney, and killed some 20 persons. They burned the vill ige, destroyed the corn, and put the whole population lo flight. ADMINISTRATOR'S NOTICE.
