, the mouth of the Columbia 6nc of the main arteries of our yery existence as a nation for "without that no- . We river where would be our commercial interests, even as limited as they are? "We say again, because the loss of three vessels, some years ago, made the mouth of the Columbia "a nest of dangers'.' to the whole world. VVe were just bravely getting over the bad effects of those disastrous occurrences, by proving, through the frequent arrivals and departures of ves sels, the entire practicability of the entrance to our riv er. The good news was fast spreading abroad, and we were proud to sec that our own humble efforts in writing in defence of the Columbia, bad not escaped the notice of the newspapers of the eastern and com mercial states, and was contributing its little, through republication, towards the grand result. We do not lose faith, and our earnest hope is, that this fresh dis aster may lend to hasten the arrival of a steam-tug for our river.
