Mexican Allies. We learn by late papers from the States, thai the Pawnees and Ottoes, (both of which tribes receive annuities from, the United Stales govern ment,) have united with the Cumanches in a kind of robber warfare upon the government trains between Santa Fe and theStates. Mexicans had been seen wilti the Indians, al various limes, and were supposed to be the occasion of the confederation. The Indians had become so strong and daring as to attack, and frequently with success, trains under large and regular escorts. Gone. The parly for the States, numbering some for ty odd men, bave left the settlements, via. the Southern route, and are now journeying towards their early homes. They left sooner than had been contemplated, which we are selfish enough to regret, as we did not gel all our letters oil by them. The Rev. Mr. Roberts, we see by yesterday's "Spectator," journeyed with the party up'the Valley for some distance, and speaks highly of the crops. V Ve wonder if any more " Cia culabs" were sent to meet the Immigrants? Emigration to California. We have ascertained from a reliable source that the emigration to California the present season, will comprise only about fifteen uagons, and thirty men. Those with wagons will be compelled to make a large circuit to get safely into Cal ifornia, as we know of no practicable wagon route thither other than that by Mary's river. The Cnors. From every quarter we hear most flat tering accounts of the favorable condition of the crops, and their very promising appearance. An immense quantity of wheat and oats have been put in, and the next harvest will give a most glorious yield, if nolbiog unforseeu shall occur to prevent. Gratifying. With eTcry number of our little paper ue are receiving some new token of encouragement, assuring us that our efforts, however humble, are not thought valueless. We received a pleasant letter of this character a few days since from Puget's Sound. VVchad not entertained an idea that the existence of the "Free Press," as yet, was known in that distant part of the counliy. We trust to make our presence there, as elsewhere, always agreeable to a large cir cle of patrons. From the Army. The following letter from Captain Nesmith will show the progress of the reinforcements. "We have since learned of Col. Lee's arrival at the Dalles: Ft. Gilliam, April 23, 18i8. G. L. Curry, Esq. : Dear Sir I snatch a moment from duty to drop you a hasty note. We arrived here last evening amid a shower of rain, after a hard day's march from oppo site the mouth of Sandy. Smith, William McCov, John McNeal, and James I in brio, which makes the 9th company of 0. H. to consist of 72 men, rank and file. They are a fine set of men and perform their duly cheerfully. Our company is shorter of horses than ci ther of the others 22 men having been mustered into service on foot. They have been detached to assist up with tbu boats to Fort VVascopam, where we hope o obtain horses to mount them. Capl.
