' Cnpt Tease has sent to San Francisco for cast iron pipe, with which to complete the Oregon City Water Works. One day last weeK a lad named Rich ard Roberts, lost one of his fingers acci dentally, while employed at the woolen factory in this city. . m Two " notable" marriages were sol emnized last wcefe by J. M. Bacon Esq., bf this city the first on the 25th. was that of Charles Kahulipa, Kanaka, and Cilly Arquett, (half breed). The second on the " '27th being John Henry. (Kanaka.) to Kancy, doolchman. . o Mr. M. M. Owen. Esq., of Lower Mo lalla Precinct, lost two valuable horses on Saturday night last under circumstances which lead to the suspicion that they were poisoned. His family were attend ing campmecting at the time the loss oc curred, and Ibe horses were athij farm, in the neighborhood. . A campmeeting which lasted nearly two weeks, at Rock Cmk in this county was closed on Monday last. We under stand that quite an extensive religious in terest was awakened, and that many united with the church. The weather was not favorable, yet the attendance was very large. -o . James Cooper and Oliver Porter of gjlverton were arrested on a charge of selling liquor near the Rock Creek camp ground, and brought bejbre Justice Owen for trial, on Monday the 22d inst. Cooper 'plead guilty, and was fined fifty dollars and costs. The case of Porter was post poned till Friday the 3d inst. Dr. Poswdl, President of the medical department of the Willamette University, will please accept our thanks for favors. The third course of this institution will commence on the ith day of November next, aad continue four months. It is now permanently established. In the catalogue of students we regret that Clackamas touftty has no representation. 0 The following is the result of the base hall game played at thi3 city on Saturday between ,4he Clackamas club and the Wellingtons of Vancouver, Clackamas rum, 37, Washir gtons, runs Ilh Time of game, threcQ hours. Our people imiit soon wake up to Mich enterprises; Tils idea of shipping grain in sacks is one bf the many that has kept us poor ; retard ed the growth of this region of country ; and placed California ahvays in advance of For instance take the Standard mills. They have paid annually about ."0.000 for several years, for bright on wheat ; costing an average of If! cents per bushel froni Corva'lis to Milwaukee. Ten thousands sacks are in circulation to do this branch ofLiisiht'ss for that one mill. With elevators and railroad stations this grain could be delivered at less than half the expense, or twelve hours notice, and the price of the sacks be put into gr.in benefitting the farmer as well as the mil ler, and accommodating the public. Tits Wo.npkus op Oasuov -The won ders of nature to be seen in Oregon are indeed grand. Some of the niost remark able daces in the world exist here, and, were they ill Europe, would call forth critic(Sfrom every inhabitable spot of civ ilization. The surveys of Hon. D. P. Thompson of this city, one of the IT. S. Department Surveyor?, must of themselves be worth much to adventures. A few days since while examining Mr. Rappleyc'S new map. Mr. Thompson placed his index finger upon a little spot in the Klamath legion, and explained that there Was indi cated one of the wonders of nature, it be ing an immen e spring, affording water sufficient to float a steamer for seventy five miles. This stream filled with a great variety of lish, finally empties into another body, or lake of water, with no apparent outlet. . ExTEKPiirsK Rewardkd. A letter from Ten d' Orielle to II. A. Hoguc, Esq., of the Dalles, speaks well for the enterprise of the Oregon and Montana Transportation Co., and not .so irdl for the Mullen road. Even Mr. Philip KHz, th Walla Walla champion of the latter route, had to back down fa an effort to cross over that way, and thus took the Lake route. Crossing by the Steamer Mary Moody on the 10th. If ever enterprise deserved proper recogni- tion, and aid at the hands of the general government, it is this. Put, like every thing else that has its origin in Oregon, it must fi'jlit its Kay. We have nothing to dream of for obstacles to the O. and M. T. Co., but take pride in the fact that we have ever cherished and encouraged its proprietors from the beginning, just as we lSVe and do the O. 0. R. R. Co.; and, also, just as we have the O. S. X. Co., when it was in heed of friends. The P. T. Compa does not need our assistance now. The City Seminary closed on the 2Gth for the summer vacation. The Odd Fellows of Quiney, Illinois, purchased a lot of ground in that city, in 1S62. for $",C00. Now that same lot. without a building of any kind upon it, is worth $30,000, But the best of it is this : An association known as the '"Odd Fel lows Building Association," have just com pleted a hall upon that lot which cost $100,000. The V'hi,j says it is the finest structure in all the west. Major Burns, brother of our excellent friend here, is President of the association. The 13th Annual Report of the Odd Fellows' Library Association. San Fran cisco, has been printed. The following ap peal is made to all Lodges and members of the I. O. O. F., by authority of the Asso ciation : The Odd Fellows Library Assiocation, of San Francisco, desire all Odd Fellows in good standing, visiting the city, imme diately on their arrival to enter their names and residences in a register provid ed for that purpose, permanently placed in their rooms. The reasons for adopting this system are manifold : A non-resident brother may be sick, and if registered, the General Relief Committee would at a glance, as certain his whereabouts, and promptly hasten to his assistance. A brother might be known to be in the city, and many friends might anxiouslv but vainly seek him. The Register would obviate such a difficulty. A telegram sent to a well-known broth er remained in the Odd Fellow's Library for several clays, no one being acquainted with his residence. Recently a brother from the interior dropped dead in the street. It was not then known he was arid Odd Fellow. As soon as that laet was ascertained the General Relief Committee hastened, and found the body in a rough box at the County Hospital, about to be carted out to the Potter's Field." Nothing more need be added to demon strate the great importance of brothers from all parts acceding to the above re quest. By order of the Odd Fellows Library Association. By letter rtccived at this ofliee from Siirerton under date of June 27tli we learn that the crazy individual who lately visited this city was en rout? for Salem, lie says, be now has ready the final mes sage to send to the Jlevord, giving what no man can define by a Icok at his epistle to us. Marion county is better able than this to pay his expenses at the Insane Asylum. His letter td us Closes as follows: For the purpose of murdering as many genuine white men with their own deadly weapons of war as he, the enemy, could, and their wives and daughters. Oregon City and vicinity was my allotted place to meet them, for lite or death, on the 2:jd and 24th of June 1SG8. Aud I have met them and come out in victory. This is the translation we make of his production. He needs attention. lion. Wm. C. Johnson has been lying quite ill in Salem for two weeks past, but we take pleasure, sajs the Unionist, in an nouncing that he is convalescent at this time, and is expected soon to regain his usual health.
