0 O 0 0 0 0 G O DO OV AVAST A KISS 1 O There's a jolly Saxon proverb That is pretty much like this, That a man is hiilf in heaven When be has a woman's kiss ; But there's danger iu delaying And the sweetness may forsake it; Sol tell yon, bashful lover, If you want a kiss, why take it. Sever let another fellow Steal a march on you in this Never let a laughing maiden See you spoiling for a kiss. There's a royal way to kissing, o .And the jolly ones who make it Hare a motto that is winning q If yoj want a kiss, why take it Any fool may face a cannonj Anybody wear a crown But a man must win a woman) If he'd have her for bis own. Would you haveT golden apple, You must find the tree and shake it ; lrthe thing is worth the haviDg, And you want a kiss, why take it. o AGEICULTUItAL. fcolicc to our Headers o A general) invitation is extended to all the readers vf The Weekly Entekpkise, to sond to the EJ'dJ? of this paper informa tion on subjects connected rbitk fanning, 0 gardening, and rural economy. o Horseradish Sauce. We have made some inquiries lately, and find that the amount of Linseed oil annually brought into the Columbia river is not less than thirty five thou sand gallons, worth 45,000 or 50, 0J0. By the introduction of home made oil, this large amount can be retained in the country, and profit able employment given to great num ber of persons in producing the seed. ( 2 Tkain. Congressman Ax- tell of San Francisco has turned trai tor to the Democratic party, so we learn from the two straight out or gans, the Examiner and Dispatch. Axtdl lately tbOivrred a speech in Congress in which he expressed some humane sentiments in regard to the negro, and the Democratic organs of ;n Francisco cried out, "awav vith his, persecute him." There is a bitter light in that city between the tceesh Miid the more moderate waiir Of the party over the proposition to re riomiti.ite him. A man in Kentucky killed a s'ck cow n short time since, in whose tomach was found a lnrze brass pin and a quantity of honks nnd eyes. Resolved, That it is the highest duty of every American citizen to maintain against all their enemies the integrity ot the Lniou ana the paramount authority of the Constitution and laws of the United States, and to preserve at the ballot-box the fruits of the late war. 2. Resolved. That the work of recon struction of the Southern States belongs to the legislative department of the gov ernment and that we endorse the thirteenth and fourteenth amendments to the Con stitution and the acts of Congress com monly called the reconstruction acts, as the beat plan yet proposed for the resto ration of the States lately in rebellion to their former relations to the Federal Gov ernment. 3. Resolved, That we are in favor of ad mitting the rebel States to representation in Congress at the earliest practicable mo ment w hich the public safety will permit 4. Resolved. That the national debt was necessarily contracted to save the national lite and ought to be honestly paid, and we condemn every scheme devised for the re pudiation ot the whole or any partot the debt as disgraceful to the Republic and unjust to its citizens, and that the propo sition to pay in legal tender notes those debts contracted to be paid in specie, is only a milder term for repudiation. 5. Resolved, That, under the Constitu tion, the Federal Government has no right to interfere with the elective franchise in any State having representation in Con gress and where civil government is not overthrown by rebellion. C. Resolved. That the right of expatria tion is the natural and inherent right of all people and indispensable to the enjoy ment of' the rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness : that while the citizen owes allegiance to the Government, the Government owes protection to the citizen, and that it is the duty of the Government of the United States to protect all its citizens, native born and naturalized, in the full enjoyment of their rights as cit izens of the United States, wherever and under whatever color or pretence those rights may be in-vaded. 7. Rcsolvd. That the foreign immigra tion, which in the past has added so much to the wealth, development of resources, and increase of power of this nation, the asylum of the oppressed of all nations, should be fostered and encouraged by a liberal and just policy ; and that we ?ytn pathlze with all people everywhere who are struggling for civil and religious lib er t v. 6. Resolved, That the thanks of the American people are due to the soldiers and sailoi s of the army and navy who have perilled their lives in defense of their countrv and in vindication of the honor of its flag ; that the nation owes to them some permanent recognition of their pa triotism and their valor, and ample and permanent provision for those of their survivors who have received disabling and honorable wounds in the service of their country ; and that the memories of those who have fallen in its defense shall be held in gratetul and everlastuisr remem brance. 9. Resolved. That we are in favor of lib eral appropriations of land and money. try the Government, to aid m the con struction ot railroads. Mowixa Lawns. As soon as the grass on the lawns commences to grow, if it has had a top dressing of manure in the win ter, whatever straw may be on should at once be cleanly raked otf. and as soon as it is loner enough to take the edge of the Bcvthe.it should be mowed. It is of the firt importance that the first mowing should be done as early as possible in the season. If left to grow long before the first cwttiwg, the leaves get yellow at the base, and at every cutting after the yel lowness appears, totally destroying the tine green color which gives the lawn its chief attraction. Where a first-rate morring is desired, it is best to roll the grass the day before cutting. The grass is then pressed all one way. and cut evenly, and any dirt or stones pressed beiieath the surface that would otherwise take the edge olf the scythe. A good lawn-mower keeps his scythe very sharp. Some grind a little before each regular set-to at mowing. Those who are not accustomed t mowing lawns, should take but a few inches in width aE a time, so as not to '-score.7' With a little thought and judgment. aSy field-mower can socn beconw ft good lawn hand. A sharp scythe is the chief element of success. Don't Advertise. Don't adver tise ; it is a very poor plan. It will call attention to your place of busi ness, and it is much better for people who wish to trade with you to hunt you up. It gives your customers ex ercise, and makes them healthy. Besides, if you advertise somebody will buy np all your good, and then you will have to get more, and it will be a great bother to you. The enter prise and rapid advancement of Oregon has become a mutter of universal comment both at home and abroad, and the time seems close at hand when she will fairly rival many older States in the Union.
