We have at present three steamers a month, less than half enough. Mr. A. Wessels, of Olympia, has been in our town for several days, dealing death to rats. Tho Herald cf Wednesday says: We learned yes terday that it was in contemplation by Mr. Ilaun, lately of Umatilla, (and who was in the employ of the O. S. N. Company for upwards of two years), and others, to place a line of steamers on the. Willamette, in opposition to the P. T. Company. We made inquiry and learned that arrangements were act:vely being perfected tc carry out the undertak ing. The steamer Zewislon, a very light draft boat, built by Mr. Perrins and another gentleman to ply be tween Wailula and Lewiston had been purchased and would be brought down the Columbia and placed on the line between Portland and Oregon City. The engine and machinery of the Fannie Troup, (the eider,) which has been laid up at Vancouver for sometime, has also been purchased, and will be overhauled, repaired and put into a new boat to be built above the Falls at Oregon City. Mr. II. has just returned from Oak Point where he has been to secure the "knees" and other necessary timbers. A contract has partially been entered into with the Willamette Iron Works for the manufacture of a boiler for Uie new boat. We also learned that ar rangements were making for the transportation of freight around the falls at Oregon City, ai d that 75 cents was the contract price. A trip and a half a day will be made, leav ing Portland in the morning, arriving at Oregon City early in the day, and departing for Portland, and then re turning to Oregon City, where it will remain over night thus laying over at each place alternate nights. It is in contemplation to purchase another boat to ply between here and Oregon City. We merely state the foregoing, without remarks, and will Jet the reader judge for himself what the re sult will be. We can assure the public that such a man as Mr. Ilaun exists, that he is an enterprising man, but what amount of capital he pos sesses we know not, nor do we know whether there is a power behind the throne. A boiler is certainly being made by the W iliamette Iron Works for a boat which it is alleged is to be built above the falls at Oregon Citv. By wailing we shall see what we shall see.
