to our readers a weekly paper in every
respect equal to any hi Oregon, except
those which are compiled liom daily edi
tions in Portland. To enlarge at this time
may seem to some extra hazardous, but
we curetully counted the cost beforehand,
and if our patrons do not fail to keep their
i tilth with us. shall go on us thy p iper now
appears, promising other additions as we
are enabled to make them. Otherwise the
paper wid be reduced to the origin.;! size.

this town, with its advantages, has a paper
equal to the times, if not in advance of
other matters about us and while we are

county paper makes known, and which
could reach the public in no other way.
The reports of the proceedings of the
courts?, of public meetings, of local socie
ties, etc.. are all of general interest, and
are worth more than the paper costs, ft
is taken as sin index by strangers of the
prosperity of the section where published.
One wishing to go to a new place natural
ly looks to the local paper to give him in
formation concerning the resources and
development of the vicinity, and its ap
pearance and contents exercise no small
inliuencc in deciding as to the destrabiiity
of the location. The inTiou'-e of a well
eomluc'od paper in attracting attention
and immigration to a town or county, and.
consequently increasing the value of
propei ty. is very great, -and is sufficient
reason why it should receive support from
till enterprising utul intelligent citizens.

not care to take it from partisan motives.

steep (one. when the breeching to his har

his horse, and causing the animal to run.

and sill 'were precipitated on a stump,
throwing Mr. Lewis and Mi Mary Prown.

pany, which takes the place of one past in
use of 12 horse power. The capacity of
the works we found to have more than
doubled since our visit last January.
This does not show very pinching times.
Caution. We would caution our lady
friends owning canaries. about leaving the
cages in exposed places. On last Satur
day a chicken hawk pounced down upon
a tine singer owned by Leon. Ihller. and
destroyed the bird in its cage, at the door
of the Lincoln Bakery, on Main street.
Such a bold stroke on the part of a wild
bird is rarely seen.
