The Beauty of Oil Age.
I often think each tottering form
That limps along in life's decline,
Ouce bore a heart as j-oung, as warm,
As full of idle thoughts as mine,
Ami each has had its dream of joy,
.. Its own unequalled romance,, r - -Commencing
when the blushing boy
Firnt thrilled the lovely woman's glance.
And ach could tell his talc of youthr -Would
think its scenes of lore evince
More passion, more unearth! truth -
Than anj tale before or since, ,
Yes, they could tell of teuder lays,
At midnight penned in classic shades, .
Of days more bright than modern days.
(Vnd maids more fair than modern maids.
Of whispers in a willing ear ;
Of kisses on a blushing cheek, -r
Each kiss, each whisper far too dear
Our modern lips to give orspeak, .
Of passions too, untimely crossed
Of passions slighted or betrayed -Of
kindred spirits early lost
And buda that blossomed but to fade.
Of beaming eyes and tresses gay,
Elastic form and noble brow,
And forms that have all passed away,
And left them what we see them n jw, ,
And it thus is human love 1
?o very light and fruil a thing?
jLnd must xouth's brightest vision more
Forever on time's restless wing ?
Must all the eyes that still are bright,
Aud all the lips that talk of bliss,
And all the forms so fair to sight, "y
Hereafter only come to this ?
Then what are all earth's treasures worth,
If we at length must lose them thus
Jf all we value most on earth
Ere long must fade away from us?
oiiMs ox aitlk treks, La3t year,:
ems a correspondent of the Ohio Fanner.
my orchard of about one hundred apple
tees was entirely stripped of leaves
and blossoms by the apple-tree worm or
caterpillar. I tried "several ways of des
troying them without success. They are
appearing again thus spring in numbers
that are astonishing' from three to five
hundred of the small webs or nests ou
tingle trees ; the limbs are literally cov
ered. To get rid of them without des
troying the trees seems impossible. I
would like to learn trom you. or some
of your readers, a remedy to destroy
or speedily remove them. -
Answer. We presume our correspond
ent has a visitadon of the pest known
as the tent caterpillar, which congregate
in tent-like nests upon the trees. If this
is so, the effectual remedy is to capture
the w hole colony while they are in their
tents of a cool morning or evening, or
rainy day. We have had a perfect suc
e&3 for many years, by using a swab
upon a pole. Dip the swab in strong
ley of wood ashes, and wind up the tent
and its inhabitants The ley rubbed up-
on" the branch will kill any stragglers
which may escape the winding. Some
people blow up the tents with squib's
of powder in a shotgun- There are several
remedies which are effectual, if thorough
ly applied.

Disease ix Sheep. At the meeting of

the subject of Cakixia Aquasa, or Rot,
which is a disease prevalent among sheep,

Small Faums and Fritt. A New York

in regard to small farms : In .many cases,
where large farms are divided, there is

both grown on th same land, from a
lew acres than mo.-t men make on 100
acres by common farming. These and
other small fruits may be grown between
the rows of apple trees in a young or
chard. The grower of small fruits may
also do better by growing strawberries,
raspberries, and blackberries, so as to
have a succession all through the season;
thus requiring less help at any one time,
-while tho business can be better man
aged and coatroiled.
