The Special Session. MOCLAMATIONBYTHEOOTERNOE, CAIX- IKO UPON TBE LEGISLATURE TO AS SEMBLE NOTEUKEK 9. Salem, Ojn., Oct. 12, 1885. Whereat matter of vital impor tance U the )opl of the Stat of Oregon seem to require the convening of the Legislative asssnibljr in special session. Now, therefore, I, Z. F. Moody, bj virtue of the authority in me vested, as Governor of the State of Oregon, do liereby direct the com filing of the two liouhes of the Legislative assembly of he State of Oregon in special session t the state capitol in Salem ou ilor. flay, Nov. 9, 1885, at 2 o'clock p. M., of which all who shall at that lime be entitled to act as members of said body are hereby required to take no tice. Given under my hand, and the real seal of the State of Oregon, this 12ih day of October, A. D., 1885. Z. F. MOODY, Governor of Oregon Attest: It, P. Eamiaut, Sec. of State. Special Session. Governor Moody, as will be seen by liix official proc'amation tmblUbed elsewhere, has called a special -e?pion of tlie Legislature to conere ntSaleui November 9th. We think the Goer ndr did right ami for this action will be fu'ly sustained- by the Republican parly In Oregon. It now remains for the members of the General Assembly to demonstrate their worthiness of the confidence -which we liaye imposed in them. It lia been insisted, if the Governor would call a special session, that the mrmbers would meet in a spirit of compromise and conservation, and not only elect a United States Seuutor, bul, us far as possible, perfect the itn-. perfpet legislation of the list session, and enact buuh other desirable laws aft fnilrd by reason of the unfortunate dissension? grooving out of the election of Senator. This confidence in the wisdom and patriotism of the members has been derided by other papers in tha State, but is none the less firmly entertained on that, account. The Republicans of the United States line felt the giealest interest in the Senatorial contest in this State, and they will without doubt he mil) approve the Governor's action in giv ing the Legislature another opportuni ty to rectify the mistake of the last seh-inn. It cannot be that they will experience another disappointment, growing out of tha obstinacy and fac tious spirit of any of the members of the Assembly. On the contrary, we feel disposed to promise then a rspn wnlalive from Oregon in the United Statu Senate that will be worthy the State and the great party which so long directed the destiny of the nation Unofficial returns from nearly all the. precincts canvassed since midnight in Ohio make Foraker's plurality " touch 21,000, with the ret of the ticket likely terx-xid that, and 23, 060 votes for the prohibitionists and 2000 for the preenbackers, on a total vote of over 700,000. The legislature is Republican ou joint ballot, without the fourteen members from Hamilton county, by nt leait five and probably nine, but with Hamilton county the benate w ill probably have, una Demo cratic majouty. With Hamilton county the Republicans would have thirty-three majority on joint ballot, and a working majority iu each branch. Our Solid Men. There is no vast amount haardrd up, but tho batiks have all thry need for legitimato demands. The usual amount has been advanced on wheat probably more than at this time last year, because the crop was harvest ed earlier. So far as could be learned, the circulating medium is fully rqual to the requirements of tho trade; hence the money market may be bet down as healthy. Remarks the ''Astorian:" ''Lst tl)6y should 'get mad' and forget it, one of the first things the legislature might, could, would or shuuld do nfter convening in special session, is to fix things so that Judge Taylor is not by law ob.iged to open court in Alkali and Astoria on the same day. The Jut'ge is not given to spreading himself, but even if he were the strad dle is loo great. Ohio has given a decisive majority for the Republicans and the Governor of Oregon has called a special session e-f the Legislature, thereby insuring .other Republican U. S. Senator.
