The Board of Trade have added a
Bureau of Immigration whose head
quarters are located in New Market

state and to asiist immigrants in ob
taining homes in the state. Any in
formation as to agricultural products
and lands for sale or settlement can be
addressed to C. B. Carlisle Secretary
of the Oregon Immigration Board,

The"Okalona States" outlines the
policy of the South under the now
rder of things as follows: "The re
establishment of the doctrine of Stats
rights, the subversion of the fourteenth
and fifteenth amendments, compensa
tion for slaves lost by tho emancipa
tion, and a gradual reduction of the
tariff with a view of placing this
league of sovereign states upon a free
trade basis, and at some convenient
period the, pensioning of ex confeder
ate soldiers."
It is a singular fact, and one which'
calls for explanation from the friends
of St. Jehu, that his heaviest vote was,
given in thoss states where the liqaor
power reigns supreme. In tie pro
hibition states he was scarcely heard
of. His own state of Kansas, where
he was supposed to be especially popu
lar, gave him but 4,000 votes, and
Iowa, another prohibition state, gave
him but 2,000. If his candid icy was
roally in the interest of constitutional
prohibition, why did not the special
friends of that polity recognize the
fact and act accordingly?
Oregon's first Presidential vote was
cast in 16G0. The total vote that
rear was 14,410. In 18G4 it was
18,345; in 18G8 it was 22.08G; in 1872
it was 20,121; in 1876 an active con
test brought out a full vote, tha total
being 29,805, out of which Hayps had
a plurality over Tilden of 1,057, with
510 votes thrown for Peter Cooprr.
In I860 the whole vote was 40.SS0,
Garfield received 20.G08, Hancock
19,950, Weaver 245, scattering G7.
This year the total vote was almost
50,000, with a Republican majority of
over 2,000.
At the election in Washinton Ter
ritory, Nov. 4, for Delegate in Con
gress, Armstrong, Republican, received
20,849, and Voorhees 20,995 votes.
The majority for Voorhees is 14G.
The total vole for Delegate is 41,814,
ef which about 10,000 wero cast by
women. The vote indicates a popula
tion of a) least 150,000. The proper
ty of the territory for the year 18S4 is
astessed at $51,008,484. The Repub
licans elected their generals of militia
over the Democratic candidates by a
majority of about 7,000 vote, ahow
jng a very large Republican mijority
in the Territory. Voorhees was elect
ed Delegato by Republican votes on
the railroad issue. In Kings county,
in which Seattle is situated, and where
there is a Republican majority, Voor
hees received 3,G59 votes to 1,413 for
Armstrong, a majority of 2,246 for
Vocrhaes.

A letter has been received from E.
W. Allen, one of the commissioners
from Oregon to the New Orleans Ex
position, dated Nov. 30th, in "which he
states that he and Mr. Swash arrived
en the 25th, and the car containing
Oregon's exhibit on the 27th, was un
loaded on tho 29th, everything being
in good shape. Mr. Allen also states
'hat there is much confusion on ac
count of the unfinished buildings and
everybody wanted to got their exhibits
ready fer the opening on tha 16th.
Ho save that Webfoot'a exhibit looks
diminutive when compared with twen
ty five cars from Kansas, forty from
Nebraska, and thirty from Minnesota,
and no money to make a good showing
with, while other States hava from
15,000 to 50,000 donated, so that
they are enabled to make an excellent
showing. Mr. Allen suggests that it
would be well to sond him fresh sam
ples of fruit, as that taken will soon
be lilted, and that these desiring to
comply with his request send them to
Mr. J. W. Crawford, at Salan), be
fore the 25th inst., so that a shipment
can bo made by January 1st. Those
sending green fruit should send about
ten of each kind in a package, and the
specimens should be thoroughly clean
ed and wrappad in papers. Dried
fruit should be sent in fire or ten
pound packages.
