Abundance fob Consumers Says- tne Jjaily "jsews," Portland. If there ever was a time when green fruit, gar den truck, cerra's, etc., were ns cheap as at present it is beyond the memory of tha oldest inhabitant. Many other of the necessaries of lifo are also low, so that a bushel of wheat at the pres ent low price hardly piys the farmers, and the immense yield places the better condition coranaratively than it wus h year ago. Now is the time for the liousewifp, stable keeper nnd others to lav in their winter supply of food. With oats at 30 cents per bushel, hny 10. per ton, feed and other commodi tie equally as cheap, there need be no cause for suffering among stock the present winter. Tomatoes sell for 25 cents per box from the farmer's wagons, and all available casks, bottles and jirs should be .filled with tomato catsup. Fruits, berries, etc., have been unusu ally cheap th's season, and no doubt many kinds of- preserves graco the pantry shelves in numerous households-. Many boxes of ppars, apples, prunes and plum3 are shipped eastward and coastwii daily, which shows that there is always a market for green fruit.
