We might run through the whole, list of products with similar results. Nothing is abundant but wheat. Partners have a craze about wheat and grow it at a lrs, to the neglect of far more profitable craps. No note has been taken by them of the enormously inci eased demand in this city i.ul at all the towns of Ore gon and Washington fur fruits, vege. tables, meats, egs and dairy products, and in const quenco we have the dear ot maikrt in the United States for every article of food except flour only. No country can pioduc all these things better than our own. ihe profit of producing them at priies mu'h . less than those now prev liling will Htill be very latge. Neglect to pro duce them is the gie.it est drawback the country now suffers. The New York "Herald" has the following editorial on the American Navy in a late issue: "On the eastern and western shores of the Pacific ocean in South America and in Asia, there happens to be a call for a display of naval force by our country as a reason able safeguard for American residents in China, ft ml at the same time in Peru. There is iminence of war be tween Franco and China, and the riots which have already occurred in Canton have aunounceJ Chinese an'ipathy towardr residents of everv foreign nationality. It is characteristic of the lower ordeis of Chimse to display this enmity whenever their country is em broiled with uny foreign power. Very important American interests are at stake in half a dozen great Chinese port?. The pujudices against our people, which persecution of the Chi neMi in California und anti Chinese legislation at Washington have inten sified, not to speak of other consider ations, require a powerful naval rep' resentatiou of our country, in the event of any great field of military anri commercial commotion.
